Zero hours contract teacher employed by an academy chain

I worked in a school fro 35 years that became an academy. I had been reducing my hours and at the start of 2019/20 term I was persuaded by the head to accept a zero hours contract where I would be the first port of call should the school need supply. This suited me as I would be able to turn down work at a time when my wife was due to undergo major surgery. The school closed in March and since then I have received no income. I requested some aid but was refused. Have I any rights?

Unfortunately no. Your right is to be provided the number of hours in your contract, which is zero0

The only thing you can really do it look to see if you are eliglible for any benefits

I suppose you could ask to be furloughed but that would be at the school's discretion.

Probably unlikely as they are generally government funded. So I doubt the funding has been cut.
