O/S Daily Saturday 9 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching catchup tv, I'm enjoying first cuppa whilst on here, DS1 still in his pit and DS2 settled and happy.
Bright sunny warm start to the day, weather forecast not so good after today though.
Lunch yesterday was bbq - really enjoyed and some food left. We have planned chicken curry for lunch with rice, naan and poppadum. I'll be making a cheesecake this morning - just something that I haven't made for a while.
Yesterday I went to our local farm shop to collect a sack of potatoes and some other veg I ordered the day before - all lovely quality and at a good price. This place has loads of greenhouses at the back where they grow lots of things also they're very good for the seasonal fruit and veg too.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting us off nmlc.
Another gorgeous sunny morning - oddly, the met office says it will be sunny and possibly showers later and accuweather is trying to convince me that it is raining heavily.
Yesterday I weeded and did my best to trim an unruly buddleia which is quite possibly spelt wrong. No sign of street parties round here. We know only our immediate neighbours anyway.
There are lots of things that I really should get on with. I am struggling to decide if I'm lazy or just disorganised, but the week has very little shape to it while we are in lockdown. I'm not complaining, like most people I'd love to spend time with my friends but I'm not going to do that until it is safe.
OH cooked last night, he made a lovely cottage pie. I used to hate cottage pie until he made it for me, he manages to avoid that bit in the middle where the potato sort of sludges into the underneath.
I hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Hi everyone,
We had a lot of people sitting in their front gardens having tea yesterday. We didn't but we did go outside for a few minutes to talk to a neighbour at a safe distance. It was a bit too busy for my peace of mind though. Some people were out for hours including a neighbour who has Parkinsons. I hope nobody gets the virus from all this.
After a totally sleepless night on Thursday I slept quite well last night so I'm feeling a bit better today. Our Tesco order is coming between 10 and 11 thankfully, we're getting a bit low on things to eat a lunchtime and of course I'm looking forward to a chocolate treat.
It's lovely at the moment but isn't supposed to last, Chris and Crystal have the week off (they were supposed to be in Spain) so I hope the bad weather doesn't last too long.13 -
Morning All
The sun is trying to come out and it's quite warm already. Mattress protector is on the line, there's another small load to go in once I've had a shower.
I bought paint yesterday so have started to clear my bedroom, I slept in the front room last night, the bed is quite comfortable - never slept in it before! I emptied the small chest of drawers and brought it all outside, it's been sanded and painted so will take it all back up later, it can sit in the DGCs bedroom for now. I'll have to work around the wardrobe and bed, there's no way I'm even going to try to take them out.
Some of the new plants in containers were re-potted yesterday as I managed to get some gravel for the bottom of the pots. I was going to plant out the broccoli at the allotment but will wait until next week when the weather warms up again, must go and water up there today.
A swing arrived yesterday for little Sophie, thought I was having it delivered direct to them but clearly not, I'll take that to them once I've watered everything.
Fridge replenished and had a healthy eating day, the pounds are creeping on so need to get that under control.
Happy Saturday, take care. XX13 -
Morning
Beautiful start to the day here I think a day trip to the spa may well be on the books later on.
Groceries from Asda all delivered with just pitta breads missing so not too bad. No flour of course but thats to be expected now. Lovely friendly delivery man ....may have woke most of the neighbours up as he was blasting some serious rap musicanything that makes that tough job bearable I guess
Usual sat befriending call this morning then I can either choose to bottom the house or sit in the garden. Think Ill channel monna and leave the house till the sun vanishes. Need to do a new meal plan now I have the vittles in but I think tonight I will do liver and bacon.
Have a great day all and enjoy the weather if you can11 -
Morning everyone
Lovely morning here too. I need to walk into town this morning to collect a prescription, but not getting an answer from Boots at the minute to find out if it's ready.
Then I'll call at M and S for bread and rolls on the way home.
Then hopefully a nice sit in my garden with my book. I've done all I can out there at the minute until I get my next planter, then it will need painted.
DD brought little one up for 10 minutes before her bath last night. She loved the little wooden pram I bought her …..pushed it for a bit, chucked the blanket and baby out and sucked at the bottle. Then DD put her in it and pushed her round the garden, little one loved it and squealed for more!
Eldest DD in Stockholm has just sent a video of herself at her pole dancing lesson.....!!

Morning all
Bright sunny day here again we have had a lovely spell of weather. I have a wash on the go and another to go in after.
Yesterday afternoon was lovely we sat out for a couple of hours and had tea and scones and prosecco and waved at the neighbors,we had war time music playing my mum came down and we sat her a distance away from us, we sat far enough back so anyone passing did not come near, it was a lovely way so spend the afternoon.
Onto today I shall go for my walk and water my plant babies, tonight we are bbq'ing so OH will go to the butchers on his electric bike and get some meat, we have the makings of coleslaw and salads so we are all set.
Right better get on have good days all xx

Morning all.
You make sure you do that Nelski. Housework, like the poor, is always with us and will still be there when you have nothing better to do, dammit. On the other hand, sunny days are few and must be treasured. Enjoy the spa.
Like you, snoozer, I had a good night last night and consequently feel brighter this morning. As the weather looks as though it is going to break tomorrow and winter is set to pay us another visit, I will get the bedding washed and out. It won't be pegged out as I've no washing line as yet, but it dries quite nicely draped over garden chairs.
That reminds me of a story, if you can bear it.
I spent some time teaching in a very posh school, we had the children of the aristocracy, self-made millionaires and taxi-drivers, we weren't fussy. I was in the kindergarten one day listening to a little girl read. She came from a titled family where every child had its own nanny, if you can believe it. Anyway, she was reading a book called Mrs Mopple's Washing Line. After a couple of pages she stopped, looked up at me and said, "Mrs C. What's a washing line?"
I thought of the stately home with its extensive staff, beautifully manicured grounds and realised that, no, the poor child had no idea what something as mundane as a washing line was. Poverty is not always lack of money.
Anyway. Back to basics.
I have no idea what I will be doing today apart from draping wet washing over garden chairs. If anything exciting occurs I will let you know.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Have trouble remembering how to fly.14 -
Morning all! Sunny here again! The milk was warm on the doorstep by the time I got up [ nine-ish] and the cat desperate to go out. He was not happy about the fireworks last night, don't blame him, he hid upstairs for most of the evening.I was very angry yesterdy, the next door neighbours decided to have a garden party with all their family, who I could hear saying things like ' Well, the governement told us to stay in for today but I though ,get lost!' One was telling everyone about just getting his 12 week letter and laughing about his food parcel.... I wonder if they'd be that happy if they killed their gran....I was down the far end of the garden riddling, they were all up around by the back doors, but after it became clear there were loads of them there, I just stayed in...which curtailed my garden activities. And that ladies and gentlemen is why this virus will never go. Because you can't educate stupid. Shame it didn't take just the stupid ones. Wonder if there'll be a spike in two weeks time after this weekend.Today I'm more garden, OH will hopefully be sawing some tree, i'm making pork meatballs with some kind of spicy sauce [ out of an out of date packet] and either noodles or pasta depending. I can't get my head round using pasta instead of noodles which is strange because essentially, they're the same thing. I made the rice salad yesterday after, so we have that to snack on. I have successfully avoided cooking for two days this week! I'm going for three next weekMonna, I think TA has a steam cleaner for her windows and stuff, and a couple of others. Ive got a Vax floor steam cleaner with a pull out handheld bit, it comes with all sorts of gadgets and gizmos, have only used the metal scrubbing end [ for the tiles in the kitchen by the cooker - gunked up very quickly, but certainly spruced them up] As a floor cleaner, it's good but difficult to push on my tiles [ quarry tiles] until you get a good head of steam going and the tiles are more wet than steam. There's a thing you can attach to steam the carpets, just a glider...All in all, I'm pretty pleased with it. I haven't tried the window attachent yet, I use it when I can no longer ignore the state of the floor [ a long time, maybe once a month for me?]Nelski, things are back to normal when there's liver and bacon...:) camelot, by this rate, your house is going to be on grand designs efore long!
snoozer, hugs for tough times...AOD, not lazy or disorganised, just a sign of the times...Hope all readers along ad the usual suspects are good/passable/fantastic, have a Stress free Saturday!

Morning Campers Hi-Di-Hi ! The sun is shining again but it seems it's not going to last past todaySiL called this morning bringing eggs !! Whoo Hoo ! I shan't be afraid to use any now as I have plenty in the fridge.Today is going to be spent pottering in the garden, there are still a lot of shrubs that need knocking back into shape as I haven't kept up with them. They seem to have grown right under my nose and the Philadelphus and Rhododendron are fighting against one another for space, but as they are both in flower at the moment I may hold off with their haircuts. There are plenty of others to give my attention to.No one here had tea in their front garden but I think 3 doors down were having a BBQ as I could smell the cooking and hear a lot of laughter coming from that way. Such riff raff !! Only joking, we on the other hand had a dignified afternoon tea on the patio.Tea tonight will be gammon steaks and oven chips with pineapple and I'll top it off with an EGG
Probably open a tin of fruit for pudding as I have no fresh and the bananas are still on the green side.
TA are you OK or have I just missed your posts ? Hugs coming your way.Hope everyone can enjoy the day.Take care all, stay safe and keep well. Hugs to all in need.nan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Morning folks.I was out early for happy hour at the supermarket which was very quiet. Had a nice chat with a friend, at proper distance, who I met there. Also been to the gazebo shop where the owner gave me a free bottle of sanitiser along with my takeaway coffee. He gets them from Chivas. On the way back I had to collect some meds for DM and get some cash and milk for a neighbour. As the weather was mild and cloudy it was a very pleasant morning. I had a short'ish walk down the drive and back to deliver the neighbour's milk - he's at the last close and DM is at the first. When I walk I still take one crutch though mostly carry it, think it's a confidence thing!DP1 - lovely to hear about your DGD, she's progressing so well since her op.Now it's time for breakfast. Happy Saturday to all.12
