Self employment government scheme

Hello
So I'm a self employed hairdresser but I work within a company.
When corona hit there wasnt any help for the self employed so the owner of the company offered to employ us so we could benefit from the furlough scheme.
Anyway he did this too late so he has terminated our employment and we are now back to being self employed again and luckily the government have now offered the self employed some help but my question is will we be entitled to it? I'm thinking hmrc will see that we tried to go employed to get the benefit and when it didnt work we tried for the self employed benefit instead. Obviously we are supposed to trust our "boss" and we all thought he was legit in what he was trying to do for us but we were none the wiser and now I think he could of ruined our chances.
