Furloughed but not claiming CJRS

3 weeks ago, on a Friday I was furloughed and given a letter which states that as part of being furloughed I will sacrifice 1 weeks holiday and have to take another week at the end of June and that my company would be claiming CJRS and would top it up to %100 of my salary, all other terms and conditions of my employment would remain the same
The following Monday my company CEO made an announcement that they would not be claiming any money from the UK governments scheme but would continue to pay us 100% of salary.
Despite asking many people at all levels in the company how having me sit at home indefinitely on full pay is saving the company money, all I get back is "we are saving a lot by the furloughed staff sacrificing a weeks holiday" I understand that but they have so far paid me, and over 50% of the workforce, full pay for having 3 weeks off and doing no work (even though there are projects I can be working on from home)
I really can't understand how they are saving money or am I missing something

You are at home, receiving full pay but still not happy? Am i missing something here?

Think they are worried how long it can go on for. It does seem rather strange to pay people out of own funds, when they can claim, or they can make them work for home. Although its nice to see not all companies are abusing the system claiming when they don't really need too.0

Are the owners likely to be pilloried in the press by claiming whilst being rich? (see Branson & Beckham)0

They are saving 2 weeks pay, I've had a drink and my maths is awful at the best of times but it's probable that the 2 weeks pay saved is more than topping up 20% pay or the difference isnt much in the bigger picture0

Are they?
wow think I'm more merry than I thought 0 -
Yes Andy_L they very likely are
Whilst being at home on full pay is OK I have lost a weeks leave and will have to take another at the end of June when I doubt much will have changed so when this is all over and I can actually start seeing my girlfriend and kids again I won't have any time off work when I really need it, also I am guessing if your employer is claiming on the CJRS for an employee there is some guarantee that they have to take you back on when they can, I'm just feeling a bit insecure at the moment in that my employer could stop paying me or make me redundant at any point
Just for reference Poppy12345 like thousands of other people I live alone and haven't had a face to face conversation with anyone except the odd delivery person, its not the best of fun, I would rather be working and have my holiday later in the year when I can spend time with loved ones0 -
There isn't. An employer can make people redundant at the end of furlough if they wish.Neilmp said:--- I am guessing if your employer is claiming on the CJRS for an employee there is some guarantee that they have to take you back on when they can,Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
I think many believe its a job guarantee scheme, when it isn't. In the OP case it sounds like the company is well off enough to be able to support it's work force and taking the ethical view that it does not need to claim. It could well be with all the bad publicity out there they've decided not to apply in the first instance.calcotti said:
