Cheap tasty dog & cat treats

Hi
I have 2 pampered rescue cats & a pampered rescue puppy. I’m soon to be separating with my husband & looking at cutting as many costs as possible. I won’t compromise on quality pet food or the pet insurance policies but could maybe make a saving on some of the treats I’ve been buying. Some pets at home treats work out over £1 for a single chew 😱. My first thought is macrel & pilchards. Any ideas we can swap would be great please. Tia xx

This is what I posted several months ago for sardine flapjacks (dog):
Basically 12 oz? rolled oats
4oz any flour,
2 tins mashed up sardines,
oil from tin + extra oil,
I clove garlic peeled & chopped,
1 egg, water or milk to mix.
Mix together, you should have a very stiff 'dough', can add water to soften slightly.
Press into lined swiss roll tin (s) with floured fingers - or similar shaped tin
Mark into fingers
Bake in mod oven- gas 5 approx until golden- 20-25 mins.
Turnover.
Turn heat right down, cook another ? hour?
If you cook it very slowly at the end the biscuits turn very hard and can be stored in a tin for indefinite period. I think the sardines will work out the cheapest.
There is a similar recipe using liver but that has to be stored in fridge & freezer so more of a fiddle
I just guess when I make it, hence the ? !!
