Travel insurance cancellation payout

Just checking this is correct.

I was supposed to go on a mini cruise this week coming back today.  It was cancelled and I have been given a credit note. My query is this though, I rang the insurance company hoping to get the money back for my insurance I paid, they told me because I didn't cancel directly I knew the cruise was cancelled, I cannot claim it now.  Does anyone know if this is the case?

In any case the travel insurance has been active ever since you booked it (for illness etc), so this is why full refunds havent been given in general.

Most single trip insurance no but depends on the company and terms and conditions. May be fair deductions or pro rata refund from when it was issued
