Opt out are hard credit searches & do downgrade your credit score - keep away!

I made quotation requests on comparison sites expecting soft searches to show.
Then had an unauthorized opt out credit search appear in my credit file from Eon Energy Solutions Ltd of which has
  1. Included in the table 1 of credit searches
  2. Lowered my score.
  3. Lists in the total number of hard credit searches made on a yearly basis
No other changes to my file were made at this time and as a result other lenders can now see the effects of this search, my reduced score and effects my ability to get credit.
I now have to track back to see exactly how this hard search was applied, and which website.
These actions severely limit customers in applying for quotations, imagine a credit check raised against your file every time you want to get an energy quote.
Surprisingly did not get a hard credit check for the supplier I went with.
This is so dishonest of Eon Energy Solutions Ltd to credit check on a quotation only, hopefully issues like this will be investigated and EON be prosecuted like the banks were for miselling.
Looks like these are being reported as soft searches but affected my credit file as a hard search.
Opt out are not soft searches they effected my credit score. Keep away.

Are you certain it was a 'hard' search as it should have been a 'soft' one?

If you make a complaint, then you may 'earn' yourself £10-£50!!

I've never been asked for my name and date of birth during a quotation for energy.

E.ON's own online service doesn't ask for those details either: https://www.eonenergy.com/for-your-home/products-and-services/best-deal-for-you/quote.
