Hi all. My builders are driving me a bit mad. I for in today to see that they have cut a wire from the BT mastercard socket which I asked them several times to leave I googled it and it seems that the wire is not the same main wire but the wire leading up stairs which we won't need if that is the case. Can anyone help me to identify if the socket would still work. Pictures below. Wire that has been cut is from under skirting on front of box. Wire is the one with blue and orange connectors in bt master socket.

Plug in a phone to the socket and find out - assuming you still have a line to the property.0

Remove the rest of the front cover , if there are 2 wires connected to that panel then that's the main BT cableEx forum ambassador

My guess is BT master incomer is still inside the box connected to the socket on the right hand side of that wall plate. While you're having the work done, why don't you get that socket moved? Have a look on the outside of your house from that window and see if the phone cable doesn't have another junction box mounted higher up on the outside of your house. I bet it does, in which case, connect a new phone lead to that and bring it into your house in a more suitable location, eg via the loft.Inside the BT junction box on the external wall will likely be a couple of twist on connectors that you just reuse.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

If possible get the master socket relocated next to a plug socket. Older houses didn't have installations that took into account the phone line is needed for routers, hubs and signal boosters etc."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0

Will sound hollow if tapped with a knuckle. If the plaster has blown, then it needs to be stabilised before you do anything else. Those cracks will also want to be taped ( a wide woven scrim tape will do it), and ideally, short fibres mixed in with the plaster. If the builders don't do anything, the cracks will reappear. Also wouldn't use mild steel corner beads, especially in a kitchen or bathroom. When the plasterer does his "thing", he will scrape a trowel over the bead and a good chance he'll take off any zinc coating. In time, it will rust and you'll be fighting brown stains in that area. Best to use plastic or stainless steel corner bead (plastic is dirt cheap).Don't forget to keep a retainer to pay for unblocking the drains if they empty buckets down the drain. Her courage will change the world.

The wall there is still to be plastered and should be finished over the weekend. The images now are still the old wall.0

I would unscrew the main box and see what is connected to the A and B connectors on the underside, or, as suggested, plug a phone directly into the master socket and see if it works.0
