You could try this site.....there are lots out there explaining the difference between vits from diet and synthetic vitamins.Spoonie_Turtle said:
I've not heard that before - do you have any sources you could direct me to please? What other things must it contain? (I'm not being contrary, but genuinely asking because I'd like to learn *and* not be telling other people wrong information!)QuackQuackOops said:Ascorbic acid is not a vitamin and it’s not Vitamin C. Where are the mineral co-factors?For Vitamin C to be Vitamin C it must contain many other things.
Vitamins are biological complexes and dont come in singular form such as ascorbic acid.....thats just what a lab can produce....and can actually have a negative effect on the body.
Vitamin C is best obtained from diet.
There is no scientific evidence that Vitamin C protects against colds etc either.

Oh boy, I'm afraid the 'synthetic = chemicals = toxic' stuff made it very hard to take seriously. Chemically speaking, structurally speaking, synthetic ascorbic acid is *exactly the same* as natural ascorbic acid (it doesn't care that it's not seen sunshine or grown from the soil, because it's a chemical compound!).QuackQuackOops said:

I am not disputing that vitamins and minerals work better together - it is very well known that Vitamin D and calcium need each other, and there's growing awareness of needing vitamin K along with them. Iron is much better absorbed when ingested with vitamin C. The point of the thread was, the commercially available vitamin C supplements are pretty much all similar. And unfortunately, as your own link says, foods contain much less of vitamins and minerals than they used to due to depletion of the soil from over-farming, so we can't actually completely rely on diet either.1
