In an effort to help the economy and interest rates remaining low, what are you doing?
- paying household bills and food?
- paying off loans?
- paying off credit cards?
- getting a cheap late summer vacation?
- buying a new vehicle?
- buying toys, clothing or gadgets?
- savings and investment?

Using government money to buy a car, go on holiday or put into savings - this thread is a fishing attempt, right?6

I am sure there will be a few that do.

Absolutely ridiculous. The sooner this scheme and the furlough scheme are knocked on the head, the better.2

If anybody uses their seiss to spend it on holidays... the saying "fool and his money" is quite appropriate.
The money given is to help you get by, nothing else.2 -
it was a ridiculous policy to begin with. People were always going to take advantage of it. Lord knows how this is going to be paid back.bradders1983 said:Absolutely ridiculous. The sooner this scheme and the furlough scheme are knocked on the head, the better.2 -
It is ridiculous. Who needs to quarantine for 3 months? And the allowance to carry on working plus you can claim. It will be hard to police and harder to claw back. Hmrc will let this freebie slide. Everyone who can take advantage, will. I don't blame them, this is a mighty generous handout (hence my tongue in cheek post). Fact is, the self employed will be screwed with NI next time, plus we don't get sick pay, pensions etc. We will all be paying this back with raised taxes and cuts to public services. I'll be claiming my full amount and running, so will others. What a beautiful day.I'm off for my government permitted once a day exercise, to mull over my once in a generation pandemic windfall.G'day to everyone.0

I thought SEISS was there to make up a short fall and only if business affected by coronavirus. It is not just a generous handout. Maybe any finding it leaves them better off should donate the excess to charity.2

To be fair, better it gets used and circulated back through the economy.1

Whilst it may seem incredibly unfair if the overall aim is to stimulate the economy and generate demand then giving a bonus to those who aren't absolutely desperate will do just that.
An unexpected £7500 windfall is going to get spent and generate jobs and tax receipts.
If you just gave it to those absolutely desperate then all it would get spent on are the basics, rent, mortgage, utility bills etc. which won't benefit 'the economy' in the same way.
Just look at the effect of the PPI payments have had, people spend their windfalls.
Is it a means of personal support or a wider stimulus to the economy?
If it was meant as personal support there were far better ways of doing it.
Goodness knows the low paid are going to suffer to get it paid back though.1 -
The money hasnt been given to the self employed to stimulate the economy. Its been given for them to pay bills and get through these current tines.1
