Back from my jaunts. Got to Marks early enough for it to be quiet so managed to whizz round, seems there were more staff filling the shelves than customers. I took the asked for items to my elderly neighbour and had a short shouty chat with her, she's half deaf and half blind so it's always a challenge.
She had her own right hip replaced eight weeks before my op so she's good at motivating me and taking note of milestones.
On my way back I called in to the gazebo shop for a coffee and bacon roll. The street had loads of police there, all waiting for their coffee and bacon rolls too!I've got the towels in the washing machine, taken DM her breakfast and am ready for the 11a.m silence. My DM is German who met and married my Scottish soldier father in 1949. On VE day she was still up on the Baltic coast where her school had been evacuated to. This morning I asked her about the reactions to end of the war, she said it had little impact where she was as it was so out of the way. There was much relief though, both that it had ended and that the Nazis had been defeated.MONNA - hope you managed to get the coffee out of your bed linen?12 -
Morning all,
Another lovely sunny day today........was talking to OH earlier and we agreed that there has only been one set day since the beginning of April......must be some record.
DD was back from shopping when I got downstairs at 9.30......not sure what time shops opened but she must have been waiting at the door, she was very naughty and brought us back two lovely Danish, which we solved down........that has been our breakfast so far, think I will wait a bit and have brunch.
-taff......yes, the years do go faster as they advance......I have noticed that since I turned 21.......a year is now about 3 months long, no idea how I got to be 75 in a few weeks.......last time I checked I was 30!
Ruby , so glad your checkup went so well......the prayers and positive obviously worked.......you take care my dear, exercise is fine but don't overdo it. Loved the story of the neighbour and lilies.
Belated welcome TonberryDreams......you will like it here.
Have a good day everybody.............stay safe and well.

Monna, I liked today's quote. I have very mixed feelings about today. Yes we should commemorate the event and the people who lived and died for our freedom. BUT, I really hate the feeling of (unwarranted) superiority over other nations this gives some people, fostered it must be said by certain newspapers. I read yesterday the Daily Fail online saying that Germany used the language of science rather than that of war for the coronavirus because they lost WW2, what a load of rubbish. I would have thought that the best way to celebrate the war generation was to concentrate on stopping the virus in care homes. Churchill wrote after the war "In War, Resolution; In Defeat, Defiance; In Victory, Magnanimity; and in Peace, Good Will".
Rant over, I hope I haven't offended anyone.
Welcome Tonyberry.
I've had a couple of really bad days. I was on the verge of tears yesterday for most of the day and couldn't sleep this morning till 5. I just can't see a solution for us at the moment, we can't risk Steve's life yet we can't bear not to see the children and Esben for months and months. I know a lot of you are in the same boat so I must get on with it but it just got on top of me.
We have a Tesco delivery booked for tomorrow, it's twelve days since the last one so we are eking out the milk until it comes. I have had no chocolate for most of this week either (maybe that's why I've been such a miserable so and so).

Hello all, the sun is in, out, and shaking it all about today, wish it would make up it's mind ! It is lovely and warm though. This morning we have been to Dad's house along with DD and family for group photos to commemorate today while we're all still here. I just wish my Mum could have been here too
It was extremely difficult to get everyone in the right place for the photo with the social distancing rule, but it was managed eventually using a wide angle shot. A lot of " you move there and you stand over there- no go back to where you were" from Mr Fix It who acted as the photographer, so cue everyone moving in a large zig-zag fashion. The most awkward part was himself trying to get in place next to me before the camera went off........... Usain Bolt he's not
Then the DGC interviewed Dad who was in his best gear, blazer, service medal and beret, about what he was doing on the original VE day and then DD gave everyone scones and clotted cream to take home. We shall have tea in the garden, salad and quiche, with the scones for pudding. I don't think anyone in our street will be partying at the front, we shall see, but we can easily move our table and chairs.
Nothing much will be done today now except I have a small wash in the WM and I will hang it out in a mo, then sit out in the garden with my book.Nelski I hope your Mum 's ear feels better today. Strangely though my ear is playing me up, feels like it too needs to pop !Snoozer have a special hug from me.Meanmarie Mmmmm ! Danish pastries now that's my kind of breakfast !Sorry I have forgotten everyone else's posts, my brain is addled more than usual today.Take care all, stay safe. Hugsnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently12 -
Afternoon lovelies
No big parties in my close kinda glad as there's some local pictures appearing already on facebook with families and friends all coming round to join in. Not sure what they don't understand about "no visitors who dont live there" Hope all the convenient rule stretchers dont result in a second peak for us all.
Anyway Ive loved the VE coverage with all the interviews with our wonderful elders telling their stories and demonstrating what real heroes they were. I had a chat with mum and she was telling me about a party they had (she was 14) where they had a huge bonfire in the middle of the street with tables all around and as much food as they could muster. Apparently my grandad and all the other men in the street had to stay up all night till the fire went out and was safe ....we both agreed they probably had their own party once the kids were in bedPrecious memories
I have some ginger and rhubarb scones out of the freezer and some lemon drizzle cake for tea at 3 with a cheeky glass to toast
Afternoon tea in lockdown
Enjoy your celebrations all maybe when all this is over we can enjoy proper street parties
