O/S Daily Friday 8 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH watching tv, I'm showered and dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, roasted potatoes and veg. I had salad with mine instead of veg. Today we'll be bbq'ing at lunchtime - I already have some koftas and burgers from the butchers. I'll be going to do my normal weekly food shop this morning first thing, so will have a look for something else to bbq too. We've already decided bbq today then curry for tomorrows lunch as the weather doesn't look so good. Once I'm back from shopped I'll make a cheesecake too.
Yesterday I did get some chores done, bed stripped, bed linen washed, line dried and put back on. Hoovered through too. Also if the weather is ok I may go for a walk.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC,It's sunny here, looks set to be a nice day like yesterday.Welcome TonberryDreams !We finished our carpet shampooing yesterday, and cleaned the machine out, loads of gunk and fluff and we'd vacuumed before hand. Anyway it's done, and the machine has been taken home to DD's. Future visitors here will have to walk on their (clean) hands.Taff you're a regular superwoman with all that moving of concrete blocks and so forth, I had to lie down after reading your post, I was worn out.RR I'm pleased that you had a positive post -op report, take it easy and keep on getting better..Monna, hope you haven't spilled your coffee this morning, what a way to start the day. There are no particular plans for today, except getting out for a walk, we haven't been out for a couple of days,Hope everyone has as good a day as they can - take care folks13

Moring all! Still sunny! woop! More garden today, but I was reminded [by myself] that I do have to start thinking about cleaning the House of Doom or at least decluttering more after watching a TV programme yesterday where their house looked just like ours - stuff everywhere because they hadn't really unpacked properly or found a home for things and that was after seven years...At least we've only been five and have three cast iron reasons...That's my story, I'm sticking to it.I may have pilfered a little bit of wood from the skip, just to make kindling with so we don't have to buy any next year. For the last couple of years we've been burning the wood the next door neighbour gave us when he took down his picket fence and we ran out of that in March. And look, it's now May...May!!We're five months into the year already and I can't remember how gloomy and damp January was... Another year will be over before we know it..it is true that the years speed up as you get older. Mine seems to be whizzing by though when I think back. I suppose I am grateful in a way to be at home, because the garden wouldn't have been being done a bit more, I wouldn't have moved around so much, I'd still be afraid of doing excercise and being puffy and panty. Now I exhaust myself every day doing something I like doing...ANd shoud I get bored with house and garden, I can actually clean my own car and polish it too....:)And the cucumbers have sprung up overnight, literally, there was nothing there when I went to bed, and this morning there are leaves...Yes, I'm the saddo who checks their seeds for appearances every day...But they're up now so I can stop worrying about having to sow more. WHich reminds me I must put the netting up in the greenhouse and move the hollyhocks somewhere. I might do back garden v front garden comparison on them...Scarlett, I'm not superwoman, I just like to get things done sometimes [ doesn't happen very often, I have to make the most of it now...] I do enjoy reading about a good clean sometimes though, that's why I caved and bought a steam cleaner...Now I have to write a hundred times 'Must not buy a carpet cleaner, must not buy a carpet cleaner' Right, enough rambling, have a good day all readers along, stay safe on Fabooolous Friday......Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...13

Morning folks.REDRUBY - that's good news! 👏
When the cleaner arrived yesterday I went out for a while. A little drive, a little shop, a little flat white and a little walk. Once back I changed my bed linen and put on the new set. It's plain white, which I've always preferred, and very soft cotton. The other unwanted set is now waiting to be donated.
Later I decided to 'do more' only to find there wasn't much I could do! ☹️ Ah well, perhaps in three weeks time then. I began to pace round the flat every hour in lieu of a longer walk. The other week I bought a couple of books by a new-to-me author, Caro Ramsey, so settled to start on one. So far so good. I had hoped to go to some events at Bloody Scotland this year but, of course, it's been cancelled now even though it was due to be held in September. Everything is so uncertain just now, it's as if the world is on a kilter. This morning I'm doing some shopping for an elderly neighbour so need to get my skates on. I hope everyone is holding up well.Happy Friday to all.13 -

Morning All
No sunshine this morning but it's quite warm. The bedding is on the line, not sure if I'll put it back on as I really want to paint my bedroom so could move into another room, all depends if I can get any paint. I've cleaned the dishwasher filters, not a pleasant job but all shiny now. Whilst I was scrubbing mucky things I did the drawer to the WM. That's enough cleaning for one day!
taff - I also watch for new growth from the little plants, I usually buy them but have grown most from seed this year and they seem to be doing well so far if a little late.
Work yesterday was fairly quiet but nice to see colleagues, we also had a work quiz night after the applause which was fun. The applause was great, everyone out, the piper played and folk were dancing in the street, lovely to see.
I must do some shopping today, the fridge is empty apart from half a cucumber. Good that I have used everything but I really need my greens! Allotment later, hopefully the bees have gone back to their hive and I can spend a little longer there than I did the other day.
Have a safe and peaceful Friday, take care. XX14 -

Bright and sunny here again its really lovely !! yesterday OH went to a local tiny nursery and bought me a load of plants I spent a happy hour or so planting them into pots and OH put them around the patio for me, it looks really lovely and I really enjoyed doing it, I need to get a few more bedding plants for a butler sink which is in the garden.
We ate our dinner outside last night and our dog was sniffing the grass around the hedge, she came trotting over to us with something in her mouth, we told her to drop it and a tiny tiny fledgling fell out , she is a Jack Russell cross poodle and very soft mouthed so the bird was unhurt, we put it back next to the hedge and saw another tiny one there, it looks like mum bird had pushed them out of the nest, we put some water down for them and a barricade to stop the dogs getting them but I went out this morning and both have died overnight OH will go and move the bodies in a while to stop the dogs from getting them.
Yesterday I was out the front and an elderly neighbor called me over she asked me how I got my arum lillies to look so good as she has never been able to grow them, we got chatting and she said they were her favorite flowers, and that she had been a land girl and has always gardened but was not too old and stiff to do much, she told me she was 90 !! I offered that OH could do any shopping she needed but she said she was mostly ok but would shout if she needed anything, Later on I picked a big bunch of lillys and tied them with a ribbon and left them on her doorstep and rang the bell, she waved me over again later to say thank you and she said it made her day and made her cry a little bit, bless her.
Onto today its VE day and our village are asking people to decorate their houses in red white and blue, my mum made us some bunting which we hung yesterday and we are going out the front to do the silence at 11, at 3 this afternoon you have to picnic in your front garden with tea and scones and sing 'we'll meet again' and this evening have dinner out there if you would like. I have invited my mum to walk down, she lives 10 seconds away so we shall sit her away from us and she will have a mask and gloves on but she will really enjoy it. I need to make some scones this morning we have jam and clotted cream and a bottle of fizz ! I am really looking forward to it. Tonight there is a pizza van in the next village and we have ordered one so OH will go and collect it later, a really lovely day ahead !!
Sorry I have waffled on and on today !!
Hope you are all ok and stay safe xx14 -
Good morning, another nice day though not as sunny as it has been.
Welcome TonberryDreams.
Ruby I was so pleased to read your post from yesterday and it sounds as if you will have a lovely day today.
I did very little yesterday, today I do need to do a bit of cleaning but I probably won't. I have hung out a load of washing. I have a daily minimum weed target and it is very low so mostly I manage to exceed it.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning all.
Bright and sunny here. Very glad because it seems right for a celebration. I'm pleased that people are managing to remember why we are celebrating. I overheard a couple once, saying that they didn't know why we were continually celebrating things about the war. It was only my good manners that stopped me chewing them up and spitting them out.
They probably wouldn't even be here if things had gone differently. Anyway, they didn't and here we are.
SR, no coffee spilt this morning and thanks to the fact that I dealt with it promptly, most unlike me, no staining at all.
taff, I read your posts and then have to have a lie down. I have been toying with the idea of getting a hand held steam cleaner. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?
I did have to laugh at you waiting impatiently for the seeds to do something. I remember back in the 70s when there was a recession and everyone suddenly took to growing vegetables. A neighbour decided to turn over one of his flower beds to something useful. He sowed some radish seeds, to our amusement and his wife's disgust. A bit later she reported that they might have grown better if he hadn't kept digging them up to see how they were doing.
Gers, I share your preference for plain bedlinen. Mine is all white or cream. It always looks so fresh. Except when you've just tipped a mug of coffee over it.
Thanks Camelot. You've just jogged my conscience about dishwasher filters. I usually only think about them when I've a full load and am about to set it off.
RR you must have been so relieved at your post-op result. You can really celebrate today.
Your 90 year old neighbour sounds a bit like my Peggy. She who clears her own gutters and fells trees.By that age I'll be the sweet little old lady wrapped in shawls and knitting. I've already started practising.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
War doesn't decide who is right. Only who is left.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.13 -
Morning all.A lovely warm start to the day here. Windows all open and birds singing. Lovely.Lazy start for me and DH did the morning dog walk. I do love the early walk when there is so much birdsong but I turned over and dozed today.Finished knitting a jersey for DGS4. Have started to sew it up. I’ll have to look for two buttons. I’m sure I’ll find something. Two of the three books I ordered have been dispatched so that’s something to look forward to. I have decluttered books over the past few years and use the library so I’ve run out of books. Sorry if I’ve said this before.RedRuby your street plans for the day sound fab. I’m so pleased that your mum can join you.Have a good day folks. Thinking of all who are finding things challenging x12

morning everyone
Just having a cuppa and waiting for washing to finish, then I'll peg it out and go down to mam and dad's for a chat. I'm so glad we're having good weather...I don't know how they would manage if they couldn't sit outside with me and others who call down.
One of my neighbours offered me a little tree yesterday they didn't have room for! So I said yes please and dug a hole and stuck it in - I know nothing about planting trees but hopefully it will grow!
I too check my seeds - sometimes several times a day! Both my sunflowers and sweet peas have now got little tiny green shoots....I usually just buy sweet pea plants but thought I would try growing them this year as I have time to look after them.
DD brought little grand daughter up yesterday just for 5 minutes or so - I got lots of smiles and shouts and she crawled round the grass. She has exactly the same loud screech as her mummy had - it goes right through you! She definitely still knows me and is pleased to see me - but I'd love to know whether she's wondering why I don't pick her up? I suppose child psychologists will spend years studying the effects of all this on children.
Well I'd better move
take care everyone
