Flights cancelled, hotel not cancelled, can we claim for hotel

Due to Coronavirus our flights to Gran Canaria were cancelled. We booked a hotel separately and paid for it on a credit card. The flights were cancelled and we got a refund however we had paid in full for the hotel. As there were no other flights to Gran Canaria and travel restrictions stopped any travel, we could not use the hotel. Hotel is a small independent hotel, not part of any chain or group, we paid them direct. The credit card company has rejected our claim for the hotel because they cannot chargeback the hotel as the hotel terms and conditions say the amount must be paid. There was a cancellation refund policy for the hotel but only if cancelled in a period of time prior to the arrival date, however the flights were cancelled just 1 week before travel and so we were outside any hotel refund claim timescales Should this claim be processed under a section 75 as a consequential loss claim instead or should we go to our travel insurance?

Hi, I had this problem too with our villa booking in Lanzarote.
Eventually managed to get the flights refunded from Easyjet, however our travel insurance didn't have cover for 'travel disruption', so we weren't covered for the villa. Luckily, after quite a bit of backwards and forwards with the villa company, they let us change our dates for December with no charge. They didn't have to do that, so appreciated the help from them - hopefully it will be OK to go then!
I'd advise checking your insurance carefully, fingers crossed!0
