Air France refund farce and French government connivance

Like many others, I've just had Air France cancel my flight. But got a slightly different story from others. I was told that the French government had instructed them to only issue vouchers. I pointed out that would be a violation of EU law, and that the commission had made it clear airlines must continue to offer refunds under EU261/2004 terms, and was told the the French government had changed the law!!!
To put some financial context on this, based on last years passenger numbers Air France, with the connivance of the French government, have seized over 1 BILLION Euros of money for the month of June alone, and this at a time when they've been given funding guarantees from the French and Dutch governments to the tune of half their annual revenue for last year!!!
