Caravan Site Fees paid in full do I get compensation

Hi there, we have a caravan on a site and we paid our site feed for 2020 in full in January. We are now unable to let out or even use our caravan, can we get compensation or a refund for loss of use of income and use during Covid19?
Thank you

    From whom?

I think that a lot of people are getting a very fast lesson in economics at this point. They’ve shrugged at or laughed at the people pointing out the economic carnage that this lockdown is causing and don’t seem to realise that real value has been taken from the system, and that a great many normal people will be taking losses. You are one of them, the owner of the site hasn’t chosen to stop you going, and the government is not going to pay you for a missed holiday. That money is gone.

There won’t be any entitlement to a refund.

Your contract will state what exactly your site fees pay for, the current situation doesn’t stop that from being the case.

Word is that some parks are planning to open up gradually as early as next week - subject to whatever the government says. I'd be amazed if the parks would want to give up their summer. Owners spend a lot on site.

The other issue that the parks may not have thought through is what are they going to do with hundreds of unhappy van owners sitting on the park all summer complaining. I'd venture that they'll take the business decision and make [discretionary] refunds.
    • All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
    • When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
    • "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere
    • All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's and their rules apply.

Try to come to an arrangement with them, asking for a full refund is unreasonable it is not their fault any more than yours that you can’t go. They will still have costs and your van is still being stored on the site. So try to work out a reasonable figure with them.

We have a static caravan sited in Northumberland and have also paid our site fees in full(£3,000.00) at present the only thing the family owned site are trying to arrange is to stay open in January (the site is usually closed for this one month) but I cant image many people wanting to go to there caravans in January!
Anyone with a caravan may find the NACO (National Association of Caravan Owners) site useful ( you can become a member for £30) also Park Holidays and Other Parks site has good information and have a Petition caravan owners can sign. The Gov.UK site has information under Competition and Markets Authority section which is very interesting.
Someone has filed in the Courts against Park Holidays so it will be interesting to see what happens there, as only a legal judgment will resolve this situation for most of us.
Seemingly Haven sites have given a refund of site fees (approx£4,500) and have asked for a £20.00 a week payment for the upkeep of the site. Another caravan park is giving a 50% reduction for each month of the owners not being able to use the caravan. An owner of four sites has given a reduction of site fees, given food parcels to NHS workers and rang all his caravan owners to ask how they are. There are some good people out there just not on all caravan parks unfgortunately.

A lot will depend on the financial position of the park owner. Also has it occurred to you that some park owners make such massive profits from site fees that even with giving a discount, it is not a great loss.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

The site owners are also able to get financial support from the government. So really we are paying twice as government money is all of our taxes etc.

I mentioned earlier about a park giving a refund - I think they should be mentioned - Raoul Fraser at "Golden Leas Holiday Park" also have site at Isle of Sheppy, Norfolk, Cornwall and New Forest. Within a week of closing owners were informed of a refund for each week the park is closed and monthly payers can stop payments. All owners were phoned and food parcels given to NHS key workers. Wish I was on one of these parks.

They can get support, does not mean it is enough to cover all the costs. So a bit unfair without actually knowing what the costs are.
