Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice. I work for Aldi supermarket but I am currently self isolating for 12 weeks from covid 19 due to being in the vulnerable list with CHD.Aldi are refusing to furlough me and have made me go on unpaid leave. Is there anyway I can be furloughed without Aldi's help. thanks kirk

No it has to be the employer doing the furloughing I’m afraid and with them being a huge effort in key services it’s pretty much certain they won’t apply to use the scheme.

If you are shielding because you have received the government letter then you will be entitled to SSP, if you are choosing to keep yourself off then unpaid leave is absolutely correct.

As above SSP if have a letter, the scheme was never meant for anything else then to protect jobs.

While some firms have chosen to furlough people in this situation they have to be registered with the scheme anyway and it is purely discretionary. Given Aldi’s business they are unlikely to be furloughing anyone and will probably redeploy people from areas of the business (eg advertising) that are quiet.
