My diesel engined car is only being used for short town journeys at present. Manufacturers advice is to run the car regularly for 20 minutes at 50 mph. If I do this say once a month am I contravening lockdown rules and if so what is the alternative

Yes you are. You're going on a journey which isn't necessary.0

"During the emergency period, no person may leave the place where they are living without reasonable excuse."
Do you feel that you can justify that giving the car a quick blast is a "reasonable excuse" if the "Covid Constabulary" stop you?

Prolonged use of short journeys only could cause ther DPF filter to block. My concern is how to avoid this0

Just take it for a drive but have a reason ready on the off chance of being stopped0

But you aren't using it for many short journeys, right...?jocktheblock said:Prolonged use of short journeys only could cause ther DPF filter to block. My concern is how to avoid this0 -

You sure? Because of how the Coronavirus Act is written it's just been extended another 3 weeks. If Boris was planning on lifting it then the decision had to be made earlier this week before it automatically extended another 3 weeks.

There's a difference between how long the lockdown is legally in place for, and how long it would be medically wise to keep it in place for.
The suggestions of lifting it now is simply because there's space in hospitals and ITUs again. Your call.0
