Connecting flight to cancelled flight

Does anyone know where we stand as our insurers have told us we have to wait until flight is cancelled before they can advise. We have a flight from London Gatwick to Florida booked in September - we were planning on going ahead if safe to do so. However, we live in Northern Ireland so have booked a flight from Belfast to Gatwick with another airline. Now virgin have emailed to say we can potentially fly from Heathrow instead. Does anyone know if travel insurance covers us for money back on our flight from Belfast to Gatwick if we decide to cancel due to Gatwick flight being cancelled? We have travel insurance through our bank and have been told we are covered for Coronavirus disruption. Thanks in advance

I don't think that is right, you are asking your insurance company if you are covered for a certain event and they are refusing to tell you.vikkikelly86 said:Does anyone know where we stand as our insurers have told us we have to wait until flight is cancelled before they can advise.
Saying wait till flight is cancelled limits your options.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

I think the insurers are correct as nothing has been cancelled as of yet.
However IMHO you should wait to see what happens and not cancel yourselves, as you would then most certainly not get a refund for the Belfast-LGW flight.
As the two flights are separate the first airline nor Virgin are responsible for getting you to Florida should you miss either.
Closer to the time it may be worth exploring options to fly Belfast-LGW the DAY BEFORE if the Virgin flight is definitely going ahead , this would give you time to get to LHR.
Or rebook (change the original?) Belfast-LHR if possible, whichever will be the cheaper.
When I book connecting flights for a long haul I choose the former as I then have a safely margin for unexpected hiccoughs.
