Construction workers pay cut

My husband is due back to work on Monday 11 May after being furloughed for 6 weeks. He has been told by his employer all returning employees will have a 10% pay cut to make up for profit lost during lockdown. His company have told him bigger firms like Taylor Wimpy are taking 20% off their workers. Surely this is wrong? Can anybody help and tell me where I can go to get this checked out? They have also said its indefinite so no idea when his wages will return to normal.

What does his contract of employment say?0

Nothing to suggest a pay cut?0

He can either agree to it or not. Some companies are cutting pay but most have said temporary or reviewed in future.0
-
So it is legal what they are asking?0

They can change the contract with your agreement providing it does not take them below NMW, if you do not agree then they can't just impose it but they could look at other options to save the money, i.e redundancies0

Can I apply for your husband's job if he doesn't want it?0

I know of a large construction company who asked workers to take between 15% & 30% pay cut depending upon which section of the business they are in.0
