Hours Reduced and Pay Cut but Company now offering Overtime

My partner has taken a 10% pay cut and 10% reduction in hours since 1st April.
This was agreed as a temporary measure to protect the business during the COVID 19 situation.
Majority of his colleagues have since then been furloughed.
Business has now picked up and the Company are looking for overtime next week but are refusing to put back the staff to their original hours and rate of pay.
Surely if there is enough work to offer overtime the temporary cuts should come to an end?
They are quoting one reason as "if we put everyone that is still working back to normal we will have to bring people back from furlough on 100% of their wage and not 90%" again if the work is there to bring them back to work surely they should end the temporary measures?

They should but there is nothing in the rules that say they can not. I am sure a lot of companies are using the scheme to there advantage.0

I agree, it seems to be working out very well for them! In the letter communicating the pay cut it states that this would be temporary but gives no specific end or review date. Would it be fair to request an update on when this will be reviewed?0

It would be fair to ask yes but they don't have to do it. I would try and get them to commit to a regular review period, but as you have already agreed could be to late now.0
