No hot water from cylinder, please help :(

Bit of a long story, so bear with me.
A couple of months ago or so, our system boiler blew. We had someone out and sadly, it was condemned.
With the Coronavirus situation coming in (and getting furloughed), my wife being made redundant at the start of the year and the weather getting better, we decided to hold off getting it fixed, as we could still control the hot water with the cylinder (and we don't have the financial resources to get the boiler replaced).
Yesterday that stopped working. No hot water.
The wife said when she switched it off yesterday, that she thought the power switch felt a little hot but thought nothing of it. The water still runs (cold), but no pipes or tank warmth whatsoever.
I know this is a long shot, but anyone got any idea what the possible costs might be? Do I need a plumber or an electrician?
This has come at the absolute worst time as the washing machine is leaking and we have a baby due in two weeks.
I literally want to cry.
The cylinder is a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo and is probably (around) 10 years old.
Any help you can give me is appreciated and please be gentle, my knowledge of anything surrounding DIY is about zero.

Are you talking about an immersion heater? That how you have been controlling the water? If So and it’s the stat that’s blown it’s not an expensive fix. It may be that the stat has tripped and you just have to re-set it with the push of a button.More concerning to me would the cost of electricity to heat your water. I’d assume you aren’t on economy 7 if you had a boiler.1

Who was that? Someone with an interest in selling you a new one? Time for a second opinion? Any recommendations for decent heating engineers from neighbours? A repair could be much less than you think, especially if the boiler is a common make and is only as old as the cylinder.NoSuperman said:A couple of months ago or so, our system boiler blew. What make is your boiler ?Most boiler manu will do a fixed priced repair & some allow that to be paid monthly, Baxi for example is £28 a month for 12 months & that covers the repair & anything else on the boiler for the 12 monthsI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
