How to fix scratches not to a perfect fix
Hi all - got a black Toyota RAV4, bought for £5k and might be moving out of the country so looked at selling it. I have banged it on all four corners - I asked a body shop repair how much they would charge and they said it wasn't worth it, probably 2k to fix. before selling it I'd like to at least make it a bit better. What would you recommend I buy? Some sanding paper and a black spray can?
Any DIY tips are most welcome! I don't intend on doing a perfect job but just want to make it a bit nicer before selling it. I'll likely put it on the market in early June.

Forget going to a body shop and try a few of the mobile touch up, scratch repair people to get a few estimates.
I know that the repair may not be perfect but I'm sure it will be better that sandpaper and a spray can.0 -
Pics would help
The danger of a DIY job is that it still stands out as much after so isn't worth the time & effort2 -
I very much doubt there will be a huge market for second hand cars in June. Be prepared to cut your price hard to get rid of it.
How old is it?0 -
If it's a minor scratch, then use a touch-up pen.
If it's a larger scratched area, then you can get a decent job with rattlecans, but you can also make a right ol' mess.
If it's actually "banged up", then you're not going to fool anybody but Stevie Wonder.0 -

Thanks all for feedback. It's a mix of scratches and dents so not an easy cover up. Your comments will save me the hassle then - I'll try some of the mobile shops and see how much they'll do it for or leave it as is. Yea it's a shame about timing, I love that car but I will be leaving the UK so no point in having it. I bought it last year for £5k - autotrader is valuing it at £3.6k in a private sale - I'll aim to get £3k with no touch ups. It's a black 2009 Toyota RAV4 with about 60k of mileage - serviced at a toyota garage throughout it's history so engine etc... run good0 -
Black permanent marker pen for a short term fix.0

There are plenty of things on youtube which give good advice on how to fix paintwork - however, getting it right is not that easy.
Do some research and have a go at a small panel - you may end up having to do the whole panel so make the first one a small one.

If the damage is on the plastic bumpers you may be able to get second hand panels in the same colour and swap them.0
