You need to check with HMRC's online checker first to see if you are eligible.  Then they will send you an email or text inviting you to claim.  They will give you a date when it will first be available for you to claim.  There's nothing to say that it has to be done between those dates.

  • Have they actually given a cut off date for applications, the date you receive SEISS in your bank can have a negative impact on other benefits that may be available, for example UC.

This is what is said on Gov.uk

    "How to claim

The online service will be available from 13 May 2020. If you’re eligible, we will tell you the date you can make your claim from. If your claim is approved you’ll receive your payment within 6 working days.

If you’re unable to claim online an alternative way to claim will be available. We will update this page with more information soon.

You do not need to contact HMRC now, as this will only delay the urgent work being undertaken to introduce the scheme."

It doesn't say there is a time limit to claiming, just says it will be available from 13th May 2020 and they will tell you the date you can make the claim from.

Done all the above thank you. Should be able to claim from the 13th, but I didn't want the grant to effect my U/C this month so i really want to defer applying till the end of may, which hopefully shouldn't be a problem.  Going forward when i do receive my grant i know it will be classed as earnings and I  will receive no U/C for that month

No it doesn't.  Please read the information I posted above, taken from Gov.uk.
    It says
"If your claim is approved you’ll receive your payment within 6 working days."

There doesn't appear to be any cut off date announced yet, given that they originally said we would claim in June it would seem reasonable to expect you can claim in June if that suits your circumstances better.

See what the application form says once you can access it.
