Settlement agreement

Options
Do I lose my rights to claim unemployment benefits if I leave my job through a settlement agreement? My HR team initiated the conversation, not me.

Depends on a number of factors - but generally no.

Cveat - depends on how much savings you have. New Style JSA probably available (assuming enough NI paid)
  • Thanks, I tried calling the JSA for guidance but it is only open for new or exiting claims
  • Take a look at this site:  https://www.pauldoranlaw.com/will-a-settlement-agreement-affect-my-benefits/
Looks like you can't have more than £16,000 of savings so it will depend on how much you receive.
I used to be known as ableandy but can't get into my old account anymore :(

I was in same situation at end of March. Settlement Agreement. I found the claim for contribution based JSA very straightforward (had necessary NI payments as had been in work for long term), and very prompt payment.  Note am only claiming this benefit , which isn't tested against any settlement payment, purely contributions based and lasts for c. 6 months.

For new style JSA savings aren't taken into account.
