Is there any point in maintaining the 2m Rule throughout Public Areas of Airports if you are only going to be 2cm apart once onboard ? Indeed is it even possible to achieve.
To me this seems a fundamental problem for the resumption of mass Air Travel.
If social distancing is to have any crediiblity how can it be exempted when travelling in close proximity to others for hours on end ?
Surely you can't tell people to stay 2m apart in Tesco but not on an aeroplane ?

I think for air travel to be viable people need to accept that social distincing rules cant apply in the same way for air travel.  If people dont want to travel on that basis, so be it. I appreciate the world has to move on so I am not bothered.

Given you then get on a plane and the air conditioning system circulates rounds all your and other passengers germs anyway while you sit in a once place for two hours or so why worry?  Inside  the airport is the least of your worries!

Exactly. Present the facts to the public that it is impossible and people can make their own minds up.

Heathrow boss, Emirates' boss and Ryanair boss have all said in the last few days that social distancing will not work for air travel.  Between them I think they're probably qualified and knowledgable enough to trust so I think we can go with that.

Think of a busy airport security queue with 2m social distancing. Would be out the front of the terminal and a few laps of the car parks.

It’s going to be up to what Governments and the public feel is acceptable.  Agree with @bradders1983

As in normal life you assess risks for any activity and decide whether it is for you or not.
Buying food is a necessity and if you can physically go out then mitigate the risk by staying 2m apart.
Flying is not a necessity for most people, however if you want to travel (and you have insurance to back you up) then take the risk associated with close proximity\recirculated air\closed borders and get on with it, once it is deemed "legal"

First off, I dont' think "Busy airport"  will be as you imagine from now on.
Secondly people Q in the B&Q car park, so why not?

If you accept that it is not going to be possible to do safely, then we are looking at a much smaller industry.

The reality is that for any mass/public transport system, social distancing will not be possible due to the non-viability of the service with reduced passenger numbers
