HELP WITH MY CREDIT RATING

Hi all.
New here so please forgive if I'm not doing things correct lol.
So I'm 26 and just had my 1st child with my partner and currently staying in a council property that I want to get out of and gain a mortage. I had debt from my younger days through payday loans etc ( Stupid I know but I wasnt thinking of all this back then) long story short I had been working alot and had saved up so I paid all of this off. Every account in full so i am now debt free , when i paid this off my credit score took another dive down from the little it had left. Over the last few months it has improved slightly , I've got myself a credit card which I use each month and pay off as soon as I'm paid. I registered on the electoral rule   I've set up direct debit to my council tax , phone bill , rent etc. Everything is paid on time each month. The problem I am having is most months my credit score is just staying the same and when it does increase it is very small increase before stalling for another few months. I'm asking on here for any advice as to wether this is normal ? Or is there anything I'm not sure about which is keeping me dragged down. To give you an idea on clearscore I am just below 300 out of 700. I nearly have a deposit together so I'm wanting to sort this pretty rapid so I can buy my partner and son there forever home :( Any advice big or small would be appreciated. Thanks

    Welcome to the forum  :)

Well done on clearing your debts.  Unfortunately, it can take around six years for all the 'toxic' accounts to be automatically removed from your credit files.  Once that time has lapsed, you will be able to make a mortgage application via a High Street bank.

So, you had better start saving...

Ignore the made up score the credit reference agencies give you as they're not the ones lending you the money and lenders generate their own internal scores. Concentrate on what they list as the good and bad factors in your credit record and address those. Unfortunately there's no quick fix.
Congratulations on becoming debt free BTW.
