    I almost agree with you!
I have taught hundreds of people to drive, most of whom had recently (a few weeks) passed the theory test. An alarmingly high proportion couldn't recognise common road signs, or explain what an amber or green light means, or know the default speed limit for a road. I believe this is because the current format does not encourage pupils actually to read the HC, or indeed the other recommended texts, but simply to practise multiple-choice questions while acquiring no real understanding of the subject.
The real answer is a proper written exam, but that would cost a lot more and frighten off the politicians. So, yes, back to the examiner asking random questions!

What bothers me is why is it these days there are so many arrogant drivers about compared to when I passed 34 years ago? Or is that just how people have become and nothing to do with how they gain a car test?
You can see why me and a lot of people I know think that it just seems a money making thing now.
I have even heard recently the examiners only pass so many people a day whether they did well on the day or not. The whole thing sounds currupt doesnt it?
