Is my meter faulty?

Options
My electric is currently with Eon.  I have an economy 7 meter and we have an Air Source Heat Pump.
The last time a meter reader came in July 2018 the readings they took were low - 27183 and normal - 61803.
Since then my bills have been based on estimates so today I have taken actual readings.
Low - 27183 and normal - 74814.  I think the meter must be faulty as the low reading hasnt changed in almost 2 years!   The eon website wouldnt let me put them in online as the company dont believe the readings to be real.  What do I do next?

Contact Eon via their online chat.

You haven't read your meter since July 2018 ***************************
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
  • Eon online chat not available due to covid 19 it seems.
Deaths of my children's father at 45 and my own Mother suddenly and unexpectedly the day after she turned 61 less than a year later took over me and my usual sense of what I should and shouldnt be doing kinda went out the window so yeah my bad for not reading my meter in almost 2 years! 🙂

I'd guess your meter has a teleswitch  to change rates and it failed sometime prior to July 2018. So if you're on an E7 tariff you've been paying day rates for all your electricity for 2 years or more.

Alternatively, it may be switching over at the correct times but the low rate register is stuck and the OP has been getting free electricity for two years !
The OP needs to turn on some high power items at say 1am and 6am and see whether the normal rate register is still clocking up.  A teleswitch can be checked by looking at the red lever on the right.
As shown, it's in normal (day) rate; it will drop down when it's low (night) rate.

Agree it's a possibility,  but I bet the meter only has one "measuring" circuit and we know that's working fine (since day units are being measured).

If it isn't a teleswitch it may be a dodgy old time switch like the one I had which if it fails will leave you on the same rate until you notice...
Either way it is easy to figure out as suggested above, just see if the 'day' rate is going up when it should be on night rate.
Also take a look where the meter is and see if there is a timer there or a teleswitch.

Are you on an Economy 7 tariff as if not then it doesn't really matter. I doubt an air source heat pump would be cost efficient on an E7 tariff as it would run during the day.
