EDF keep changing direct debit
Is anyone else with EDF and found they alter your DD without notification or without reason? I’ve had this multiple times since last switching. My usage is the same and I have to challenge each time. They increase it during summer despite usage going down and always owing me money.

Are you providing regular meter readings?

I moved dual fuel to EDF at the end of Nov last year, and have been struggling to understand my bills ever since, and the number of estimates from my smart meter are frustrating. However it does seem that my DD was not quite enough over the winter months. But it is going to increase from £157- to £305-!! Just as my usage goes down, as pointed out by others. I didn't want to overpay by this much, I'd rather have the surplus cash in my bank account at the moment. I searched their website for "how do I change my direct debit" which took me to a page with an online form. I proposed a new lower sum, giving my reasons, and got a letter the same day, agreeing to my proposal. That's what I call good customer service, not a phrase I use often!.

Sounds like the OP should switch to a company that offers Variable Direct Debit, where you just pay for what you've used, the same as at the petrol pump. Shell Energy and E.On are two examples.0

Yes they were notorious for often changing our DD amount arguably without reason or logic.
But they always informed us in advance - as they are required to do under the terms of the Direct Debit Scheme.
But to their credit, a quick call (with a reasonable explanation as to why we did not think it appropriate to change the amount) quickly resolved the matter by them agreeing to maintain it as was .... until the next time.

When I was with EDF at the last address, I used the chatline facility whenever they informed me that the DD was changing. Over the 8+ years with them, this worked well: I would disagree with their new payment and we would find a compromise. Early in the supply I was on electricity only and faced a huge increase. I talked this down to a reasonable sum and paid one larger payment to bring it down to the "normal" figure. I always found EDF reasonable, accessible and efficient. I will switch back to them when I can. IF the tariff is suitable, that is.
I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

@Gerry1, EDF do have Whole Bill Monthly DD, that is what I have been on for the last 2 years since I changed to smart meters.
I am quite happy to pay them for what I have actually used, in arrears !1
