I stopped going to working 23rd March due to this virus risk and have not been paid since. Can I claim SSP? Any info will be very appreciated.

I know as a PAYE employee should I either have to self isolate for 14 days for the reasons given by the government, or are in receipt of the shielding letter then yes SSP is payable. If you don't fall into either of those categories then I don't believe it would apply.0

Why did you stop going to work?P1 said:I stopped going to working 23rd March due to this virus risk and have not been paid since. Can I claim SSP? Any info will be very appreciated.0 -
If you haven’t received the shielding letter from the government then SSP wouldn’t be available to my knowledge. Why hasn’t you been going to work?0

No, you won't qualify for SSP unless you have been sick and followed reporting procedures for your employer or you received the shielding letter.
Your employer is also entitled to treat your absence as unauthorised unless they agreed you could stop working.0 -
Been following this pandemic in China since late Jan. It became very clear by early to mid Feb this would be a world wide problem. Our Government was bungling the response at every step. Its criminal really. If we had acted earlier this lockdown could have been avoided. If this isn't a rainy day to draw on your savings then I don't know what is. If I don't qualify for anything then fine. I feel sorry for people feeling forced to take risks they don't want to for money. I also worry people will drop their guards too early and we will have a 2nd or 3rd wave. May be wise to start being cautious around the autumn. Time will tell.Mrsn said:If you haven’t received the shielding letter from the government then SSP wouldn’t be available to my knowledge. Why hasn’t you been going to work?0 -
By own choice then probably do not qualify for anything, can ask for SSP but probably unlikely.0

Thats what I thought. A few mates and my dad are like "what are you going to do?". Have you tried such and such? I'm pretty lucky really.0
