Wedding refund

Where do I stand as a consumer. Our wedding has been cancelled due to the government lockdown, the registrar are not doing any ceremony’s till September, and our wedding was booked for the 20th of May. The venue wanted the outstanding balance and we have lost all faith in the venue. Are we entitled to a full refund?
Many thanks

    There's an informative MSE article here:
    that specifically mentions weddings.
    Have a read of that.

    Hello
    Our wedding should have taken place on 27.03.2020 but couldn’t due to lockdown. We weren’t told we could get a refund from the venue, but that we could reschedule up until the end of 2021. So, we rescheduled for next year.
    The venue has since e-mailed confirmation of our new date, and mention agreeing to T&Cs;
    ” If you could let us know if you agree with the new terms please respond stating so via email.

    Once we are back within the office, we will invite you in for a meeting at the venue to run through all your wedding details to help with the planning of your new date. At this point we can also sign a copy.“

    Since we have not yet responded with our agreement (the only response we sent was a query relating to our package on the proposed new date), are we still able to request a full refund instead?

    Thanks

    Hi,
    yes I have but I’m not clear on whether or not I can get a refund from the venue instead of postponing when I’ve chosen a new date (but not agreed to/signed the new T&Cs), as we didn’t know refund was an option unfortunately.
    Thanks
