The £2,500 cap

The CJRS furlough scheme is extremely generous at 80% of pay capped at £2.5k per month. Some might even say it is too generous, judging by the number of posts elsewhere in these forums of people bemoaning that it is unfair they have been asked to go back to work rather than staying at home on a cushty little number (as Del-Boy would say).
My wife and I have both been furloughed and looking forward to the day when we can go back to work. With furlough pay and things we don't now need to pay for (commuting, coffees at work etc) and things we can't pay for (meals out, holiday, shopping big items), it is really not that bad financially. We have put the car on SORN and had the RFL back and a couple of little things like that, but have not needed to ask for mortgage holiday etc. A bit of extra prudence is making it all OK.
Back to the OP's position, says £2.5k is 65%, so normal take home about £3.8k so that means annual salary somewhere in the region of £55 - 60k. I think, at that level, many people would expect that the OP has some built-in resilience and headroom to absorb financial shocks.
The OP is fortunate that his work has been able to keep going so he is only furloughed from 1st May, but doe snot say what changed so late in the day that means the company are not just carrying on with production / service as they have been from lock-down until now. Maybe, the late shutdown means his industry will be able to bounce back sooner than some others and maybe the furlough will only be a short time.
Apart from expressing a general concern about the reduction, the OP has not stated whether they have done anything to lessen the personal impact. Hopefully, with a considered review they will be able to make things all right in the end.2
