Hi Forum Members,
Trust you're well and keeping safe!
I appreciate this is perhaps a long shot, but is there anyway of removing 'Wonga' Payday Loans from my credit file?
All satisfied within 48hrs of taking the quick cash access and never defaulted.  I never knew at the time these would stay on my credit file!
I am in a much stronger financial position now and wish to apply for a remortgage, but I have around 10 from Wonga on my credit file, taken out around 1...2yrs ago.
Thank you in advance for your help.

No.  The purpose of credit files is for lenders to understand the type of borrowers who apply to them and to guage their risk.

But their impact will fade with time.

I am afraid not. Payday loans, like any other line of credit will stay on your credit file for 6 years. Their impact will lessen over time however, I hate to say it but if there is one type of lender that hates (with a capital H), payday loan markers it's Mortgage lenders. I wish you good luck but don't expect a yes from too many, you might want to visit a specialist "bad credit" broker.

    Why would they be removed?

Other than to make you look better for your remortgage?

Thats not how it works unfortunately (fortunately).

Out of curiosity, why did you not approach your bank for a loan or why did you not use a credit card?  As both of these options are far cheaper than any loan from Wonga.

I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

Find out the exact year first...
Wonga went bust or into administration in the year of 2018 on the 8th month.

Is their a valid case for people to get Wonga records removed if Wonga have paid out for irresponsible lending?

Nope, it's a factual record of your financial activities.

If you closed the accounts within two days of opening them and your credit file reflects this accurately, and it all happened over 1-2 years ago, then it won't have a negative effect on your credit worthiness anyway.

    Hi,
Yes there is, but only under specific circumstances.
The other posters are technically correct, but have not taken into account that this happens regulaly with payday loan complaints.
If you are successful in having an affordability complaint upheld, somtimes removal of credit file information is included as part of the redress package, sometimes, not always, its decided on a case by case basis, and you must ask for this as a part of your redress.
