Hi, I am hoping you may be able to give me some advice - I have not been furloughed, however I have had an email this morning from management advising that they want to reduce my working week to 3 days from 5 … is there a way I can be furloughed for 2 days a week or can I claim a benefit to make up the loss in salary ?
Any advice would be really welcome.
Thanks
Ellen

No you cannot be furloughed for part of the week. It is a condition of being furloughed that you do no work for that employer.EllenRouse said:Hi, I am hoping you may be able to give me some advice - I have not been furloughed, however I have had an email this morning from management advising that they want to reduce my working week to 3 days from 5 … is there a way I can be furloughed for 2 days a week or can I claim a benefit to make up the loss in salary ?

You can look at eligibility for Universal Credit https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/.There are online calculators to help you assess entitlement https://www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators
Be aware that claiming UC will end any Tax Credits, Housing Benefit or other means tested benefits you currently get.
You will be excluded from UC if you have savings over £16,000.
You may also be able to claim Council Tax Reduction from your local council.
If you are part of a couple you both have to claim and assessed on your joint circumstances.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
