Can I get my deposit back?

Hi. I recently moved to the Middle East for my job. As part of the move, I had employed PetAir UK to transport my dog via Air freight. We were due to fly her out March however the flights got cancelled because of COVID. As of last week we were still waiting for flights to open. I unfortunately got the news my company is making me redundant due to the effect of COVID-19. I have asked Pet Air for my deposit of £600 back, however they say they will only give me £120 of it. Do I have rights to claim all the deposit back? I’m not sure where I stand as I will be repatriated back to the UK once the borders open, so I have no choice but to cancel the air freight as no longer needed. Thank you.

The cancellation policies thread under newsflash at the top of this page may help, but read and apply that with caution as this is an international transaction so may be under different rules to a wholly UK based activity.

Did you pay on a UK credit card?  That may give you a right of refund.

You may also be able to claim if you had insurance in place to cover your relocation.

Another option is to ask the company to add the value lost to your redundancy settlement.
