Travel insurance expiring before travel - rights?

I have a question regarding insurance.
My travel insurance expires this month (May).
I am due to go on holiday in August but the ariline has yet to cancel my flights.
Can I still claim on this policy in June if my flights are cancelled in June?

I assume I cannot cancel my flights and claim under my policy while the policy is still active as the flights have yet to be formally cancelled by the airline.

I cannot renew the policy as then I would not be covered under the new terms I have checked this).

So the ultimate question is "Can I claim on an expired policy?" (Expires in May but claim between the expiration of the policy and the time to travel?

Why would you need to claim if they're cancelled ? a refund or voucher would be offered by travel co.

Because they haven't actually yet cancelled the flight but they have offered us a voucher
We do not want a voucher as they have stated they no longer will fly to the US - so we will not be able to rebook the flight at a later date.

    Did you book just flights?

  • our risk is that we have flights and accommodation booked separately, and are flying AirNorwegian, who may not be in a position to give us a refund

My annual policy with MoreThan expired a few weeks ago and I have a holiday booked for a few weeks.
When I phoned them, they said I would be able to claim (for cancellation) on the expired policy.  The policy and holiday were purchased before coronavirus.  I couldn't renew as they stopped selling policies.

The trouble you have (it's not something I ever thought about before)
If the flights go ahead and the accommodation is accepting guests,  then if you don't go (even if Government advice is saying don't travel)  you will not be covered with the insurance.

It depends what you are insured for.

My insurance says Im covered for cancellation if the FCO advises against all but essential travel and I cancel in the 28 days before I’m due to travel.

But I doubt any new policy will cover anything related to COVID-19, that's the issue the OP will have.
