O/S Daily Tuesday 5 May 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Clear blue sky with sun shining but it's cold - but forecast is sun for the day - it'll warm up later.
DH watching tv, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my cuppa and my porridge. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was ham and chicken chicken kievs with stir fry veg and noodles and rice DH moaned, I ignored. I remembered to get chicken thighs out to defrost - so will roast those and serve with mash, yorkshires that I've previously frozen, veg and gravy.
Yesterday work was steady, we'll see what happens today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. A lovely sunny start here too, blue sky and not a cloud in sight. I hope today it lasts as yesterday the early sun disappeared and we were left with a drab and miserable day. As the weather went downhill so did my mood, which is definitely ruled by the weather whilst in solitary confinement.
DD's young SIL's funeral has been confirmed as next Monday, with only 10 in attendance. The funeral directors had a one hour slot yesterday where her family could go and pay their respects (coffin was sealed). DD and eldest DGD went and she said it was heartbreaking. They had to distance queue outside and go in two at a time, then go back outside to allow the next two in. Everyone was in tears and of course hugging was out of the question. They both felt emotionally drained by it when they got home she said
So what will be will be today. I am not making any more plans as I don't stick to them. Plenty of jobs await if the mood takes me! First job must be to go out and feed the birdies as it keeps Sparkle out of mischief watching them, from her vantage point atop the activity house I made up for her!. Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them, especially our poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Take care and stay safe xx

Good morning and thanks for starting NMLC.It's a grey start here, probably cold as well.TA, it's so sad for your DD and SIL's family, poor souls, it must be unbearable, and not be able to even give a comforting hug.I'll just be doing the usual jobs today, and we hope to get out for a walk. That's our day!!Take care folks, keep safe. Thinking of you all.14

Morning All
Beautiful day, clear blue sky and the sun is shining. I'll do a wash load once I've been in the shower.
The sum total of my efforts yesterday was to wire brush the bathroom windowsill and paint it black so it matches all the others. It was a bit tricky as I had to lean out of the window but looks much better now, it's one of those jobs I've been meaning to do since I moved here (6 years ago!). The rest of the day was spent either eating or watching rubbish TV, must try harder today.
Once I'm showered I'll go for a walk then up to the allotment to water the beans and peas then I can enjoy the sunshine.
TA - that sounds awful, poor family.
Take care. XX14 -
Morning all dog to be walked its chilly out where has the sun gone my little helper has had to go into work today and DS has also left for the day so nice and quiet will get the floors done today chicken curry for dinner
TA how sad for everyone i can't imagine how difficult it must be for the family
Right onwards n upwards have a great day whatever you are up to xSlava Ukraini13 -
Morning all and thanks nmlc for starting us off.TA - thinking so much of the family. How hard for them all and I know you will be giving support to your DD and DGDs so look after yourself. It’s lovely that Sparkle has this new life with you, sitting on a home made activity centre and watching birds. Bliss for a cat!
Blue skies here. Having a cuppa before dog walk.Emailing and a couple of calls to do today. In between I’ll get some washing on.Easy tea of sausage, mash and broccoli and DH can have the half tin left over beans.Take care all x12 -
Morning all and thanks for starting us off nmlc. What are the foods that your husband turns his nose up at? My one eats most things with a very few exceptions. He does not like broad beans or gooseberries, I do though.
We have cloudy skies and it is cold but sun is forecast and there is a decent breeze so bedding is on the line and a small load of clothes is chugging away.
Yesterday I weeded and then emptied the leafmould bin, scattered what was ready and bagged the rest. The bin is an old dustbin without a bottom and it is now my compost bin. OH cooked and naturally he threw veg peelings into the kitchen bin.
After gardening I knitted some stuff for a friend and did a big wool order online. It took ages, our online speeds are way down.
Got no plans today so I'm going to mess about.
TA that is so sad, poor family.
I hope everyone has a tolerable day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
WMF I can't take credit for actually making Sparkle's activity contraption! I ordered it online ready to assemble! But it took me so long and had me so stressed out I felt as though I had made it! (And it had the nerve to say "Easy to assemble"!!) x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13

Mrning all! Up with the alarm today to await the skips arrival. The car left yesterday so I was in mine like a flash and out it went. The skip is going to be here for seven days apparently so plenty of time to fill it. I estimate i riddled enough to fill two thirds of a builders bag yesterday [ Yes, very creaky today ] but it doesn't show that much in the beds. OH dug out a few more blocks and another two concrete fence posts. I'm struggling to think where all this stuff came from. It's not enough to build anything with but too much to just have conveniently laying around to bury. Oh, and the excavations also unearthed a rusty exhaust pipe and backbox [ why?] and a Testor paint jar with some dried paint still in it so someone had little models they were painting. No gold, or buried treasure yet. And the fox has once again dug a hole under the fence...Not that I mind, at least he doesn't poo in the beds.Second cup of tea on the go, now we have adequate milk [ thank you mr milkman] but no coffee. Will add that to the next order. So far I'm quite liking this computer, so it's time to put it in it's final place and move the old one to the R.O.D [ yes, we have one too, although it does sometimes feel like they all are] after I wipe the drives. I did change it to be more like 7, basically, I don't like it when poeple try to hide things from me and I prefer having access to anything I want to change. We had stuffed chickent thighs last night, OH doesn't like bony chicken unless it's a whole one, so I deboned the thighs [ the cat enjoyed the tiny offcuts of raw] and made a stock with those, so probably ramen of some type tonight or tomorrow night. I also made some kedgeree [my version, with madras paste, fried onions, scrambled eggs and mackerel] because I'm struggling with food that's easily ready for lunch for example, so that's there now. Made with brown rice, it's really nice. I'll make another italian version of rice salad when that's gone.Right, I have fulfilled my quota of waffle now so I will !!!!!! off to have pancakes for breakfast ,I guarantee you, I'll start cooking, and the skip will come...TA, ah, but you can now add the title 'Flatpack Queen' to your many skillz especially as she's using it The poor family, I feel for them. AOD, took me a while to get that part into the Ohs head...eggshells in the compost bin please....nanny, hope you had a better sleep.Dp1, for your sake, I hope the dentitsts is open soon again too! Camelot, you win industrious award of the first part of the week Gers, hope you have a less dull day today...Righty ho, hey all readers along...Make today your Terrific Tuesday! If not, make it a Tolerable TuesdayShampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...12

Morning all,
Thanks for the start nmlc. I think I have said it before, but if your DH lived in this house any moans would be followed by a few days of beans on toast. I think your menus are brilliant.
TA, what an awful situation for your poor DD and her family. I could weep for them and all others in their position. It makes an already sad occasion ten times worse. I'm with you on the making of plans. My to-do lists are perfect examples of hope triumphing over experience.
Camelot, eating and watching rubbish sounds the perfect way to spend the day, let's enjoy it while we can. Even better if we can eat rubbish as well as watch it.
AOD I found a large box of twiddlemuffs yesterday, all just waiting for the twiddly bits to be sewn on. I can knit till the cows come home, but the sewing bit is a different matter. It drives me mad.
It is quite bright here today, but a tad chilly. I have vague hopes of doing some ironing (say nothing) and maybe giving the kitchen a bit of a spruce up, but that all remains to be seen.
My poor 90 year old neighbour is having a new boiler fitted and has had no heat or hot water for a fortnight. Added to that she has had holes knocked in her walls and the plumber almost in residence. I long to have her in here for a good warm up and gossip, but she is very properly not moving outside her own four walls. We have to be content with long gossipy phone calls.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
Rabbits jump and they live for 8 years.
Dogs run and they live for 15 years.
Turtles do nothing and live for 150 years.
Lesson learned.I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.16 -
Monirng folks - the sun came out early here.TA - such a sad situation, I can only send virtual hugs.Yesterday was spent mostly doing eating. perhaps today I'll be stronger!I have to go some shopping again, DM isn't eating very much (unlike me) so it's better to shop for very little rather than doing the normal big shop as loads were getting wasted. We don't eat the same foods - I hate fish and she loves it.If the sun stays out I'll probably phone my friend Alan, he's got a large garden so I can go and sit in it for a long-distance chat.I hope that everyone is doing OK - Happy Tuesday to all.13
