Newbie wants to learn

Hi everyone. This is my first post so apologies if it is in the wrong section. I have a very basic knowledge of the world of investing, stocks, shares, funds and ISA's and have found the information on here very insightful. I have a cash ISA (that has not been paid into this financial year) and savings accounts but my wife and I are expecting our first child and I want to look at longer term investing via a stocks and shares ISA for their future etc. Before I even consider placing my money at risk I want to try and educate myself and would like to know if there are any particular books, websites, videos etc you would recommend to help increase my knowledge of the world of investing? I've been placed on furlough this month so have plenty of time on my hands and want to be proactive and learn instead of sitting watching Netflix all day

You could start with https://monevator.com/category/investing/passive-investing-investing/, followed by searching this forum for books on investing. I recall a pretty extensive lost of books and websites someone once pulled together.2

For basics please look at
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/ISA-guide-savings-without-tax/
For stocks and shares ISAs take a look at
https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/stocks-shares-isas/
Worth talking to a financial adviser if you are starting out. Good luck, MrPeebs and have fun ....and success

I would not use MSE articles to learn about investing. It's Money Saving Expert, not Money Investing Expert. S&S ISAs are obviously a potential investment vehicle but they are by no means all you need to know about investing. You also don't necessarily want to have your ISA with an outfit that has been recommended for a referral fee. The MSE Forum is full of mainly good advise by Forumites but you have to know the basics of investing to follow the discussions.coachman12 said:For basics please look at

A reputable Financial Adviser is unlikely to spend much their time with someone who doesn't have much to invest.2 -
I think the links I provided are just right for a beginner who asks for basic advice----and , at least, my recommendations were not patronising. Good luck once again, Mr Peebs, and do not be out off enjoying learning more basic info on the links I provided, or asking a financial adviser's advice.......
and enjoy it all.1 -
Check out these videos below. They are 7 minutes each.I've basically signed up to this philosophy. Long term, globally diversified investing.3
