Does anyone know if a self employed tax rebate is counted as income on a universal credit claim please? Apologies if asked before, I did try to search but didn’t find this specific question. Thank you.

Yes it is, in the month of receipt.1

To be clear, it is treated as earnings (as distinct from unearned income). This means the taper rate of 63% is applied to it to work out the applicable UC deduction (whereas if it was unearned income it would be deducted in full). Work Allowance will also be applied if there is one and it hasn't been used up by other earnings.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1
