Scottish disclosure

I've applied for a job and been asked to obtain a Scottish disclosure although I live in England.
Is this a
DBS check, I'm confused whether it's a Scottish disclosure I need or a DBS
check?
Anyone know how long a past criminal offence is held on file for, and will it show up (1998, fine, and community service)
I'm hopeless with technology, in addition, I suffer with MH issues, what may appear simple, I struggle with, may I ask, please be patient, thank you

Scottish disclosure is similar to a DBS, but you can request it yourself. - it's not a 'true' DBS check though.
I'd be cautious as to why they're not doing a DBS check though. If the job doesnt meet the criteria, is this a way around that.
Anyway that aside, convictions never disappear. It's held for life. It will however be spent.
I doubt it will have any impact on the job 22 years later.1 -
OK 69, thanks for your reply

Isn’t a Scottish disclosure just for Scotland? There website says if applying for a job in England and Wales to use the DBS service.0

It is now possible to obtain a "basic DBS" through the DBS service.Comms69 said:

Presumably the change was because the Scottish system was getting so many applications from elsewhere in the UK.

Just the Scottish disclosure site states that you can apply for a basic disclosure as an individual but you should apply for the basic disclosure in the area you live, therefore Scottish disclosure deals with Scotland and DBS deals with England and Wales. It also states the standard and enhanced versions are for employers or regulated bodies to apply for like DBS so therefore shouldn’t a person be applying to Scottish disclosure if they only live in Scotland?Comms69 said:

Disclosure Scotland can provide a UK wide service. However due the Scottish govt Covid19 appeal, 18k have applied to return to work (now closed) and I believe the system is under some pressure atm. In saying that I got a new PVG completed in a week and just waiting for regulatory body to complete their end. https://careers.nhs.scot/coronavirus-covid-19-recruitment

In theory yes. But anyone is able to apply to DS. As @General_Grant corrected me though, anyone can now also apply to DBS - so I assume that, like me, this employer simply isnt aware of that.MarkN88 said:

DS used to be a way for people to check what would show up on a DBS check ahead of time. (for those who couldnt just work it out anyway
