I'm confused with my recent monthly bill on my gas
my fixed tariff tarrif is 2.3835 per kwh and standing charge of 11.32p per day

I've used 21 has units  and waa charged £3.23 for standing charges
(I get that)
But how have I been charged £6.06 for gas usage?
Is it 21 units times by 2.3835 p?
Which is 50p?

If it's not 50p how do I actually work out a unit price from the figures I've given

Look on your bill for an explanation.  A unit (cubic meter) is 11-12 kwh.
    21x12x2.3835 is £6.

Gas is charged in kWh but metered by volume. If your meter is metric then it's roughly 11kWh per m3 which would be about right for your figures above. The actual calculation is dependent on the average calorific value of the gas and is shown on your bill.

Ah right, so you need to times your units used by 12 and THEN times it by 2.3835?

Your bill should show the calculation

Units Consumed (Cubic Metres) x Volume Correction (for temperature & pressure) x Calorific Value (energy in each m³ of gas) ÷ 3.6 (convert from joules) = Usage (in kWh)
    So 21 x 1.02264 x 38.7 ÷ 3.6 = 230.86kWh.
[Calorific value varies and should be stated on your bill]
