Unknown charges to my account

I have recently been receiving charges in the amount of £19.95 to my bank account. The company charging the account is Credit Report Matters. They have stated that I have signed up for a membership although I have no recollection of this. Can anyone advise me here?
I have seen somebody has previously had the same problem and posted on here in 2014.
Is anyone having the same problem at this moment in time?

It doesn't particularly matter if others are having the same problem at this point in time.

If you believe you didn't sign up for the service, you need to dispute it.  However, it's very likely you've agreed to it with an erroneous click of a mouse.

Did you get a free credit report around 10 days before they started taking money?

  • I have tried to dispute it with the company, but I have had no luck at all. The company has referred me to a financial ombudsman service.
  • In regards to a the payments, they have claimed that I signed up in February. They started charging me December.

Have you looked through your emails to see if you received an email confirming you signed up etc ?
  • I have, but haven't found anything, I've been told there was a formal letter, which I haven't received.

So you were referred to the FoS as you disputed it.
When was the first payment taken ?
Have you spoken to your bank about getting the payments back ?

The first payment was taken in December 2019.
I haven't been able to speak to the bank, I can't get through as the lines are too busy

Why has it taken 5 months to notice these charges?
If they started charging you in December how was the account opened 2 months later?

Well I don't heavily manage my bank account as I have set direct debits.
I'm not sure why the dates are mixed up, thus hasn't been explained yet
