Cheap insulation

I want to have my house insulated, but I’d like to have the cheapest material as much as possible. Someone recommended a spray foam company to me. I think this is suitable for my house, but I just want to be sure if I’m getting the most cost-effective one out there. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

It's not a cheap option.  The cheapest option will be to buy rolls of insulation and lay it yourself.

The spray foam for the underside of the roof? I don't think that is suitable for any house ever tbh.

    Second that.

OP insulation has risen in price over the last few years, generally you'd use different types of insulation in different parts of the house.

As mentioned rolls of insulation are cheap(ish) and 270mm is expected for laying down in a loft, not necessarily a pleasent job but typically DIYable, you do need ensure to leave some space at the eaves.

Do you have other areas of the house you'd be looking to insulate?

    Another up-vote.
Never, ever use spray foam on the under side of a roof. The foam, despite the claims, is not breathable, will trap moisture in the timbers and will eventually lead to rot. It may be ten years, or it might be 20, but the roof will need to be stripped and the vast majority of the timber replaced. The tiles will not be able to be reclaimed, so new tiles throughout. A quick insulation job has now cost you £20K or more.

In addition, the foam gives of cyanide and formaldehyde gas as it cures. Should the insulation ever catch fire, it will spread rapidly (Grenfell Tower anyone ?), give off toxic fumes, and take considerable effort by the fire brigade to put out.

If you want cheap insulation, fibreglass or rockwool every time - Fire resistant, low cost, easy to lay in most loft spaces, breathable, and can be removed very easily should the need arise.
