I think you might be underestimating the salesmen. Debenhams in Uxbridge have these sales regularly. We bought the set, and are very happy with them, they are brilliant knives, and somehow we've ended up with loads of them, partly due to the missus and I working separately, and partly due to the promotions themselves. Anyway, the sales guy is always the same, and he is clever enough to remember faces, so when he saw me, after about a year mind you, and asked me what I thought of them, in front of the demo crowd, I gave him an honest answer. They are very good, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I wasn't planted as a stooge. I've seen him do that again, so good for him, I say. He has a good product, and is adept at presenting it, but as in all things, I suppose there are others who are not so good. I'd be a bit reluctant though, to start openly berating others as being a plant. Sometimes we are not so clever as we think we are...0

I saw this last summer. I got a free juicer & knife. Asked for the slip with no intention of buying said i would think about it. Got a very rude "If you have to think about it don't bother" reply and my free knife. Didn't spot a stooge tho!:j:kisses2:Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why we call it the present.audaces fortuna iuvat fortune favours the bold0

A similar thing happened to me in Asda. Though I didn't turn up for the talk, I heard the magic "free" word when I was walking past and hung around for him giving them out. Rather meanily though he wouldn't give me it because "I had to be over 21" and by the time I'd found my Dad the man had convientently disappeared...0

OMG are you the David? why would I put myself through that a second time?
She was without a doubt, placed in the audience. I shall tell you why!
1. She was on her own.
2. She had no shopping with her.
3. She said she had every single knife the man showed to the audience.
4. When asked if she liked the products, she said they where the best thing sinced sliced bread (no pun intended).
5. I watched her face throughout the demo, and she had her mouth open in amazement. (if she had all the products, wouldn't she now how they worked?)
6. Standing around at the end, didn't go to the till and didn't go up the man for a free knife.
It was a poor performance. If you look back through the posts a few others had seen demo's in other branches and agreed there was plants in the crowd
Well this could have easily have been me
I often park my car in House of Frazer car park at the shopping centre as its the nearest car park from the motorway. As its the first shop I come to from the car I am often without any shopping as I have just started. Sometimes I go shopping on my own without the kids for some me time. I have actually in the past bought this set as a wedding gift and received one free which I gave to my mum as a gift for Christmas. I didnt keep one myself as I had no use for it then......so does that make me an accomplice too
Maybe the woman was genuine........:p0 -
These knives are rubbish as far as I am concerned - Sadly my OH's dad got sucked in and bought us (and himself) one a few weeks ago when they were flogging them from a demonstration in the local Tesco.
I was really surprised that he had seen the knife apparently cutting through a hammer handle - and believed it!!! What a crock of !!!!!!!!
I was even more suprised when I found my mum had been conned too and had bought herself a set - which she realised were junk as soon as she got home.
They are a cheap bread knife, that's all. Yes, they are relatively sharp when new,but they are lightweight and flimsy with a cheap plastic handle and no tang (the piece of steel from the blade which runs through the handle of a decent quality knife).
I have a set of Richardsons knives which are a totally different animal - decent quality and which should last for years and can be sharpened again and again.
I wish these scam artists would stop selling these things, and that supermarkets would stop supporting them.
Has anyone tried sending these back, and have they had any success?
This was all I could find on the internet - worth a read for the funny letter!!

Congrats on the free stuff you collected!
Cant help but feel a tad sorry for those working in sales and customer services though. I've done it and it's so hard to keep smiling all the time. Its very easy to say lines wrong on tannoys as well, especially if you are feeling nervous or easily fed up!
