How long for recorded post?

yes it would on both options0

Sorry but I think this is another RM disaster. It seems time and time again that recorded items are going walkabout, maybe by using recorded it makes the goods look 'more valuable' or something. I have a huge failure rate for recorded which is why I will not use it anymore unless the buyer absolutely insists.
Anyway, as a general rule as a buyer if I have failed to receive my goods after about a week I would politely email the seller and ask for details of when it was sent. If the seller responds in a good way, ie they seem concerned that my item hasn't arrived or they reassure me that I will not los eout etc, I would probably leave it another week before contacting them again and asking for a refund. If a refund is then not forthcoming in a few days I would start a chargeback.
However if a seller ignored my emails, or if the item was sent tracked and the seller does not supply the tracking number on request then I might be tempted to start a chargeback as early as day 12-14.
So in the original post here can I suggest that you open a basic dispute in paypal and ask the seller again for details of the parcel despatch. If there is no response to that, or if the response is off hand then escalate it to a chargeback. Then leave that chargeback in until you either get your goods or a refund.
Feedback is at the moment completely immaterial it should be th elast thing you should be considering. The post in some areas is appalling, I've just had an item go astray and had to refund and that is my first since August, but I also have questions about another item that so far has been in the post for a week.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. i dont know what the issue is for RD items.
from a delivery office view it makes no real difference as such.
however more people are definatly using RD now.
dont know if people think its faster, more tracked than it is or whatever
if there are issues of RD items going missing then (IMHO) its in the main sorting system
for me they should drop the service and bring in a more expensive service which is fully tracked without a next day delivery0 -
custardy, I am sort of inclined to agree with you. The 70p we supposedly pay for a signature, and that's all we are paying for, seems too expensive for a service that even RM consider second rate. If you talk or write to customer services then they appear happy to condemn the use of recorded and I even have a letter somewhere that says that recorded should not be used for any item that you need to be guaranteed to arrive. I am inclined to think they may actually have left off a further few words like 'in a specified time' but the statement as it was written to me suggests that they don't believe recorded stands a good chance of actually arriving.
My own failure rate with recorded is appalling, I might as well chuck my items over the nearest hedge rather than send them recorded.
Yet the next service up is special which is a huge jump in cost but until my latest fiasco with my expensive item not being tracked I would have said there was very little evidence that special went astray. Add to that the fact that RM appear to want me to make a false claim for loss which I am not preapred to do, they say that I can have no tracking and no compensation unless I fill in a formal claim form and perjure myself by saying I 'know' the item is lost. I have vene made a formal complaint to Postwatch, and their response has also been to say that since the item is untracked it is therefore lost and I am entitled to make a claim for the full cost of the item and unless RM can show the item tracked as delivered I should be able to get a full refund. Is it just me that thinks this is madness?
I believe in the Post office, my family have worked there for years (down to the last few postmen now thought due to redundancies), yet there seems to be an effort from those in high places to do as much harm to the business as they can.

i agree.unfortunatly one of the problems with RM workers going on strike was it moved the publics focus away from RM as a business and onto the workers.
now all the prblems are down to lazy money grabbing posties
leighton and crozier have chipped away at RM till we are where we sit now.
massivly understaffed in many areas but being told we need to cut staff.
there seems to be no focus or emphasis on customer service now.
a recent example is the callers office in my own office(where you collect packets)
this is not opening any later over the xmas period for collections. this will cause massive problems for customers as im sure you can imagine.
complaints are rising massivly.my own region is one of the worst performing in the country by recent figures!!!
RM are using the strikes as a scapegoat but the strikes are past and now its day to day issues.
however the media also seem to enjoy whipping RM at any opportunity
heres a recent example
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/11/30/npost130.xml
okay a mistake is made but every day packages are left in such places for customers by RM and many couriers.
i actually heard this story on BBC radio 2's lunchtime news.seems a strange choice for national news IMHO0 -
Recorded delivery will take exactly the same time as normal first or second class post - but with one big gotcha. If the recipient is out when delivery is attempted then it can take a lot longer - depending on how they respond to the request for delivery instructions. If they are dozy it could take a week before they actually receive it. Worse case scenario is if they ask for it to be delivered to their local post office and then don't bother picking it up for ages.0

Have read your replies thank you very much

Well I mailed the person again and still had no reply to my requests for proof of postage. He now has 5 neutrals on his account in the past 2 days for gaming consoles not received, all buyers saying the same thing,
"item not rec'd,no comms, buyer refunded pymt"
I put in my dispute with paypal and received a refund also
Although pretty dissapointed I didnt really know what to do. So like the others I left a Neutral stating basically what they have, that buyer refunded etc.
Woke up this morning to a Negative
With buyer saying "there is nothing he can do about what happened"
Is this right for someone to leave a negative when I paid immediately, mailed him, did everything by the book, and all because I left him a Neutral?
Was I supposed to leave him a positive for an item not received and no replies?
Oh well, guess that has taught me a lesson ~ No matter what the feedback (in this case 6000+) some people just cant be trusted, when they say they have items they probably dont
Thanks for all your advice on here

I would wager he left a neg in the hope that you would offer to do a mutual withdrawal.
Rightly or wrongly thats the problem with leaving neutral or neg feedback first.0 -
unfortunatly yes theres nothing the seller can do if its delayed.
but if they answer peoples emauils then they can avoid negs/neutrals.
follow up the neg stating you paid and its revenge feedback0 -

If it was a one off I probably would agree to withdraw, he now has 9  neutral and 2 negs ! Seems things have gone very wrong for him over the past few days.
Somehow I dont think everybody will be agreeing to withdraw their ratings for this guy. So I wont
In a way I am now happy I left the neutral, least it shows others what he is like. As for my Negative, its annoying but I have replied to it stating I paid immediately, no comms from seller & Item never sent out to me. Hopefully that wont hinder me too much
Cheers peeps
