Cineworld Voucher

Options
Cineworld have told me that, because my Gift Voucher was bought "Over the counter" as opposed to online, I cannot have a refund only an extension of the date. Except that they, nor anyone else, can say when that date might be. So they can just hold on to the value of the voucher, even though they can't let me use it because they're closed. Is that right?

Yes, I think so. There's no general right to get a refund of gift vouchers.

If you mean is this a correct description of the current situation then, yes,  that's right...
The legal position is complicated by the National Emergency..
You'll just have to wait for the cinemas to reopen I think...

Yes, such is the deal with gift vouchers.  Cash is so much more flexible.

Through entirely no fault of their own.
The government has instructed them to close and will tell them when they can open again.
In the meantime you've lost no money as the voucher's validity has been extended...

As we have to tell people. You (or whoever bought it) paid for a voucher. Which they walked away with in this case. So they got what they paid for. The fact at the moment that you can not redeem it is not their fault. At least they are offering a extension.

I suspect if they don't open by then, they probably will.
