Hi, I need some advice, I just bought a new Panasonic 4k 3d Blu-ray player but I just found out that it hasn't got WiFi built in and I need answers to these questions,

1. Does Blu-ray really need to connect to internet?
2. Would Blu-ray still work without WiFi?
3. How can I update software without connecting to Internet and will my discs freeze during the movie / episodes if I don't update software?

It cost me £79 this so if it really needs internet then I need to take it back and get my money back, but if it works without internet then I will keep it.

The model I bought is: BDT180

Any advice would be great, thank you.

Not sure why you think it would need internet connection. It's just a Blu-Ray player. You plug it into your TV via HDMI and play the discs, same as DVD players.

But I got told the player needs to update software when a new software becomes available.

Then you need to contact the person who told you it needs update to software and ask why.  It does annoy me when you buy something and it works, only to be told months/years down the line that it needs an update even though it has been working for those months/years.

Test it and see if it works without any updates (I'm pretty sure it will)
If it doesnt work, use an Ethernet cable or make a hotspot via your phone to update it.

As noted in BTD 180 Operating Maual: Occasionally Panasonic may release updated firmware ....
The BTD 180  has an ethernet port which you could use.

You don't need to connect it to the internet to update it.....You can do it via USB, see HERE.
However, if it's working, don't worry about it.

My PC and TV are in a different room, so I can't do it by Ethernet cable.

Then as explained in the post above yours, download any firmware update onto a USB stick and update it that way. Personally I don;t tend to bother with updates unless it's something that will fix something already not working. As far as playback is concerned you don;t need internet access to watch a bluray.

Yes, I do know that you don't need internet access to watch a Blu-ray, as I explianed, I thought you need to connect to internet to update software if a firmware becomes available. I thought that if I don't update it then I was concerned that the disc will freeze during the movie if I didn't update the player. Yes, the USB is the easiest option for me.

Im fairly confident the player wont freeze half way through a film as it needs an update.
Theres people out there who will have bought 1 and it isnt connected to the internet but still works.
