Also agreed that, if anything, it's probably a sight cheaper to buy things ready-grown (by the time all costs are taken into account).
So - it's about having things very fresh, guaranteed organic and not having to think so much about what veggies/fruit to have.
The main reason, in my book, is growing things that are that unusual that it's probably not possible to buy them anywhere - so my garden now includes things like black raspberries, quinces, hops, sorrel, New Zealand spinach, ramsons, pineberries, wild strawberries, etc.
Currently just received (or about to receive) callalloo, sweet potato (for the leaves in my case), tree spinach, Ewiger Kohl kale, cabbage thistle, Good King Henry0
