How quickly do credit cards initiate a chargeback?
I am in a similar position with hotels dot com. I have submitted my transaction dispute form to my credit card provider a few days ago (John Lewis Partnership Card).0 -

I first contacted Barclaycard on the 23rd of March by secure message and I’m still waiting to hear.
I’ve seen people with Amex cards saying they were refunded in 2-3 days. This whole situation may cause people to re-evaluate who they do business with.0 -
For the benefit of anyone else in this situation I am still going between the hotel and hotel.com to try get this resolved. Here was my latest online chat with hotels.com. I don't know if it is of use to anyone else but hopefully it will be of some assistance. I will update the thread with anything further which I feel is of use.1

Thanks for the previous. It is very useful. I'm impressed you have been promised to be contacted in 3 business days. I keep being put on a "4 week cycle" and nothing happens. I need to start quoting the CMA Guidelines.
At no point have I contacted the hotel, since I feel my contract is with hotels.com. Should I contact the hotel?0 -
That is interesting 88mci. I wonder if hotels.com actually send the money to the hotels then?
I have a holiday booked with cottages.com and have been in touch with the owners of the cottage but they haven't received any payment from the agents and apparently only do so once the holiday has been taken. Very strange. I have been offered vouchers also but like most people, it was for a one off special occasion and not easy to organise again for next year so I just want my money returned. I don't see why cottages.com should hold onto my money for twelve months. I have refused them so far and just watching and waiting. Good luck

I have little doubt that they are both offered the same terms with the hotel so both would be free cancellation.
The difference is where in this case Booking.com would refund, Hotel.com gets to keep all the money without having to pass it on to the hotel.

For the UK it's not that rules and regs are changing, they haven't
It's consumers are trying to be misled into thinking they have changed ( EG you have to take a voucher, you have to wait a year for a cash refund etc)

Latest update on this for the benefit of others in the same position is that the hotel told me to request a free cancellation via hotels.com and they can do a refund that way rather than the vouchers. Email convo below for reference.
