There is that argument, but going down the tip, or to the allotment or, my favourite, early morning dashes to hospital (!) and other examples mean that often a taxi won't do it, even with low overall mileage. Personally I do really short trips on a bicycle, but my solution to the cost is run an older car. Mine cost £4K in 2013 and has never broken down (apart from a flat battery), and unlike in my younger days we have mobile phones to call for assistance! It's now fully amortised and paid off and I wouldn't mind somebody writing it off in a rear shunt as I'd be able to bring forward my purchase of an EV..

If you want a new car and can afford it, then get one.
If you like your existing car and want to save committing to another 3-4 year scheme, then either pay the bubble or walk away and buy another used one.
  • Hello everyone, I am just looking for a bit of advice I am nearly at the end of my pcp car deal, is it worth while buying my car out right with a loan from the bank? My car will be 4 years old very low mileage I have kept it in immaculate condition! But I know with a new lease you get a 3 year warranty and service! I just feel the money is so much a month for nothing at the end of it and most repairs are never covered under your warranty anyway (which I have just found out) I love having a new car every 4 years but just feel the money every month £300+ there’s nothing to show for it!

    thank you

Keep in mind that just because the warranty has run out doesn't mean that the Consumer Rights Act doesn't apply. In other words if expensive stuff breaks they may still be liable for at least part of the cost.

But if you are worried then an extended warranty probably isn't that expensive.
